'99 4Runner, SR5. Installed it today, replaced ...
'99 4Runner, SR5.Installed it today, replaced the defective Toyota OEM converter. The product itself seems decently made and replacing the exiting harness wasn't a big deal. Took a couple of hours, there's quite a bit of inside trim to remove if you're going to it right, and if you're working in a rush on an old truck's trim, you're going to break stuff, so don't rush it.Could do it in 45 minutes now, if I had to, knowing where all the trick trim screws are located. The only minus for me is the 4 flat connector does not fit into the Toyota 4flat connector housing, but I'll have to live with that. The replacement 4flat connector is held with zip ties to the housing, and unless you stare at it, it does not jump to the eye as something too odd or improvised.I guess it's a small price to pay for Toyota not making the OEM replacement available/too high priced, and actually having a working trailer light harness.

Plug and Play. Easy! Note instructions in review though.
99 4runner with the factory tow package. My problem was trailer lights not working. I took a guess it was the controller like most people say. Well that is true. It was the controller. After installing this harness the trailer lights are now working. Itโs only a 4 pin but That suits my needs.Installation: itโs easy. It took two hours but if you follow my instructions it only takes an hour. Because I had to do it twice.Instructions: you canโt mess this up unless you follow their instructions to put the controller box on the left side of the truck. As other people have said put it on the right side. I Initially put it in the left side and the lights worked backwards. Switched it to the right side and everything is fine. I have one final thing to do which is to route the harness down through the body. Thereโs a plug on the right side that Iโm going to puncture to route the connecter down. This is an affordable alternative to a factory replacement controller. Iโm happy with the purchase and product.

Quick n Easy to install
Quick n Easy to install. Took a star off due to the fact that the yellow wire (left turn signal) going from the passenger side to the connections on the drivers side was not in any extra protective sheeth. This wire travels under the rear floor carpet and can have loads moved around on top of the carpet, and possibly damaging the wire. Stock Toyota was well protected, but then after 16 years....the 4-pin at the tow bar, broke the connection on the running light. This Hopkins is the same setup, so I taped it well where the bare wires show at the 4-pin connector. I also taped down, all the way across the floor, the yellow wire, to "add" some sort of added protection. Also, I added the protective sheeth that the stock Toyota towbar 4-pin connector had. The Hopkins only comes with some sort of black tape covering the wires that are exposed to the outdoor elements....Maybe 3 stars, now I think......

Easy to install
I had no issues whatsoever with this towing harness. Didnโt need but a few simple hand tools and it was literally plug and play. I just wish they had some type of housing to bolt the plug end to the exterior of the vehicle, instead of the plug dangling. But aside from that, Iโm completely satisfied with the product. Worth buying for a 3rd gen 4 runner in my opinion!!

Great working complete kit but instructions are light.
This was pretty simple to install and worked the first time. The only thing that would have been better is if the instructions were more specific or complete. With little brain power you can figure everything out including a good place to drill the ground wire and how to properly route the connector externally. The issue with my 2000 4runner is that the access hole that was suggeested to cut and feed the external 4 hole connector does not lead out of the bumper. Right now it is sitting in the bed of the truck and gets held in place by the lift gate. Not sure hwo to get the wire fed cleanly form the internal tail light assembly out of the vehicle without cutting a hole in the chassis or bumper. Otherwise a great produce and everythign worked after install, lights, brake lights, and blinkers on my trailer. Good luck!

Easy 15 min install
My 2000 Toyota 4Runner did not come with a class 3 hitch so I found one in the junkyard($40) and installed it myself, now for the trailor light connection, bought this harness($37) and installation was a breeze, simply remove the back hatch sill trim(5 screws) and pull back the panels on each side, unplug the existing tail light connections and plug in this harness, perfect fit, no force needed, snaps right on! the only thing the provided instructions omit is the ground wire(white) which must be fastened to the body somewhere, there is a self tapping metal screw provided, but it is not needed, just locate the ground for the tail light and back out the screw(10mm wrench or socket) and reattach with both the tail light ground and the new ground from the converter box. Anyone can do this installation with simple hand tools very easy and way cheaper than having the dealer do it! I would never let a friend pay a technician to do this install, this harness makes it so easy a caveman could do it. Great Product does exactly what is advertised, HIGHLY RECCOMENDED

Simple plug and play! Hassle free
Worked perfectly for my 1999 4Runner! Make sure you plug the connectors closes to the module on the right side to have the correct left and right blinkers!

very good but...
its very good, plug and play. the 4pin at the trailer hitch was not an exact fit and you must install the converter box on the passenger side regardless of where it is on your vehicle from the factory. otherwise, signals will be reversed!

Easy installation
Easy installation for my 4Runner. As others have mentioned it is required to mount on the passenger side as opposed to the OEM converter on the driver side if it has one.
