Design engineering review
This is my first Nalgene bottle. I had a couple requirements before making my purchase; BPA free, simple locking mechanism, and dishwasher proof. This ticks all three and more.First thing I noticed about the bottle was the clarity of the plastic used for the container. It looks similar to glass and has a premium feel to it. The plastic is very glossy and hydrophobic giving my confidence in it's ability to be cleaned thoroughly to avoid that nasty old water bottle taste (you know what I mean). The container is slightly tapered inwards towards the top which gives it strength and further stability. I haven't checked but I suspect the bottle won't fit in a standard car cup holder. The lid has no gasket for the main thread seal, instead using the slightly softer polymer to create a water tight seal against the container lip. This is fairly common now with drinks bottles and actually reduces that amount of surfaces that needs cleaning. There is, however, a gasket in the cap of the lid that will need cleaning. I am unsure yet whether it is removable or needs to by cleaned in place. The cap doubles as a finger loop to hold the bottle if you're so inclined to do so that way. There is a dual locking mechanism, one via a steel locking bail and one via a push clip housed on the lid. The one negative of the main locking mechanism is that there isn't any reassuring 'click' when you pressed the cap closed. I find myself double checking in between drinks (I don't use the locking bail every time I take a drink).Overall I am very happy with the quality of the bottle and the price I paid. I'd certainly recommend it to others.Pretty disappointed with Amazons layout for choosing a bottle. I bought this via the app so the starting price Amazon advertised was difficult to find and in the end I gave up, choosing instead the blue lid/clear container bottle.

Great bottle, I use it everyday
I very rarely write reviews like this, but I’ve had this bottle for almost a year and it’s great. I have used it most days, in the car, on the train, in my bag or at my desk and it has been spot on. It’s easy to fill and clean thanks to the wide top, but has a small spout that makes drinking easier. The button release and spring, which I thought would fail, is still working perfectly and the metal clasp ensures it doesn’t leak when you are on the move. The hard plastic bottle is robust and has only a few minor scratches from general use. It’s well designed and perfect for my needs.

Never thought I'd be happy about spending so much on a water vessel
It's a lot of money to pay and I'm still not sure it needs to be quite so expensive but these bottles really are an excellent investment. I used to use Bobble bottles but like other people I found the gasping noise they made mildly embarrassing and pulling open the 'teat' was hard on my teeth, impossible for the kids to manage alone. These Nalgene bottles on the other hand are supreme. Okay, so there's no filter but I'm not bothered about that. I love the easy pop open/squeeze shut mechanism, the security ring, the hardwearing material, the real metal and very strong hinge (totally drop- and child-resistant and believe be it has been sorely tested). I have two of these and carry one everywhere with me, the other lives by my bed. Easy wide neck for filling up (a particular asset at night when filling up in the dark), holds a decent amount of water so I don't normally need to refill either bottle more than once a day, and easy pouring spout makes for a pleasant user experience. It is a strange sign of the times that we give so much thought to the user experience of a water bottle, but so be it.

Great quality and easy to drink from... but kinda hard to use with one hand in car
The lid isn't the easiest to use one handed in the carBUT it is very leak proof, I would trust it in my bag with laptopDoesn't hold a lot of water though.....I recommend the Kambukka water bottles, they are great overalls and much better than this OTF Nalgene

Actually leak proof, fit in cup holders / slim bottle pockets and easy to open one handed.
Couldn't be happier with these bottles. I've now bought two of them (one for me and one for the missus) and they're fab!It sounds a bit daft to enthuse so much about a plastic bottle but basically:- Fit in normal cup holders- Don't leak- Fit slim bottle pockets on rucksack- Easy to open one handed*I've got whole cupboard full of water bottles and I'm continually surprised how many of them will leak, despite saying they're leakproof. I'd been carrying a Camelbak Bottle for some time, only to find its contents all over the inside of my rucksack. This, despite Camelbak saying their bottle was leakproof and the lid being screwed tight on. This lead me to try other options and since my old widemouth Nalgene had proven flawless (but giant) I figured these were worth a look.I was initially dubious of the OTF's press down lid, as conventional wisdom seemed to be that a screw down lid was needed for leakproof / waterproof lid. Since the Camelbak had that and had proved me wrong I decided to give this a whirl after numerous recommendations. Fortunately both OTF bottles have proven leakproof over the course of the past six months.A big win for these is that they're only about as wide as a 330ml coke can, therefore they fit in all the cup holders I've tried. Likewise, they slip easily into most backpack bottle pockets without an issue. Obviously this also means if you've got small hands they're easy to hold, unlike the Widemouth 1L Nalgene. The lid too is well executed. It has a steel wire bail which acts as a safety catch to prevent accidental openings and assure that the bottle is 100% leakproof. I generally use this when carrying the bottle inside my bag or if the bottle is in a side pocket and the bag will be layed on its side at any point. In this setup (bail open) the lid will pop a little open with a quick press of a button. The spout is easy to drink from and avoids the slashes of a widemouthed Nalgene. Closing the lid does require a decent amount of pressure, that is easy with practise and trivial with a flat surface to hand (leg, table etc). It's a lot less faff than screwing on a lid, that's for sure! I mention the above in such detail as the bail can be a little trickier. It's a real knack to remove that one handed, but is easy enough with two. Usually I only find this necessary when thrown inside a bag or as described above, therefore it's not a problemIt should be mentioned that the lid can screw off and fits the standard 1L Widemouth Nalgene bottle nicely, so I'd assume any devices (such as filters) designed for these bottles will also work with the OTF bottle. All in all I'm very happy with the bottle. As it's so easy to open and close It has become my 'desk sippy cup' and has saved me a number of spillages when I've knocked the bottle over.
