Its not real ice cream... obviously?
After watching the video of the frozen walmart ice cream sandwiches that don't really melt even in direct sunlight, I might try those if weight isn't an issue... ;) But barring that these are a great alternative. I mean you gotta keep in mind what your eating. Theres no way a freeze dried ice cream sandwich can ever compare to the real thing, and anybody comparing it anything not freeze dried is really being unfair. Its apples and oranges. If your reaching for one of these instead of going into your freezer you will be sorely disappointed. But I once ate one of these in front of a small fire in 20 degree temps after a 10 miles of hiking in the snow on the 3rd day of a trip... I had forgotten I had packed one and was warming up some coffee... It sticks with me as one of the best meals I ever ate. Location Location Location. I think an astronaut would feel the same way about its deliciousness. Also pro tip: If they're crushed, and sometimes I crush em, I put em in a cup and add a little hot water to it and stir. It looks terrible but imo tastes pretty darn good. Especially if your fortify it with a little bourbon. But it takes practice to get the mixture just right. And you can always add the crumbles to oatmeal.

Super tasty! It came packaged in the bag seen in the image, and was wrapped in the same white paper as the frozen versions are. It tasted just like a regular ice cream sandwich, and all that was really different was the texture. The cookies are crunchy, but not overly hard, and the ice cream itself is similar to meringue cookies but softer, not having quite as much resistance when you bite into it. It quickly melts in your mouth after taling a bite. I wouldn't quite call this completely mess free, since the ice cream has a tendency of crumbling into dust and little crumbs when you take a bite. However, it's much easier to brush those off than it is to wash up after an ice cream sandwich gone wrong. Overall, I really really enjoyed this freeze dried ice cream for a change of pace (it was my first time trying anything like it) and if not for the price (since the taste is the same as other ice cream sandwiches anyways) I'd probably buy a ton of these just so I could store them in my room whenever I get a hackering for something sweet and creamy without the worry of ice cream drippings, haha! I'll probably buy more of these at some point, and I'm very excited to try othee varies of freeze dried ice cream now as well.

Freakishly... good?
There is something inherently wrong about eating an ice cream sandwich that crumbles in your lap rather than drips down to your elbows as you eat at the sides. But it was freakishly awesome! We brought a few of these with us as our treat after hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. They were only slightly broken/cracked by the time we reached the Colorado River so they held up remarkably well for travel purposes. We set up camp and then eagerly busted these out. The first thing we noticed was that they looked like an ice cream sandwich! You'll see why that doesn't sound so dumb once you get one. They looked like they should be melting in the 90* temperature and should be dripping down your chin if you didn't devour it quickly enough. If they were left out on the picnic table someone would get yelled at for not keeping them cold and letting them go to waste; they look that authentic. Now, they don't taste exactly like a fresh, cold ice cream sandwich but c'mon, it's freeze dried. How high can your expectations be? They were a well-deserved nice treat, but really more of a novelty. Although, I did kinda want another one once I finished mine. The kids will LOVE them though. I can't give them 5 stars. I don't really know why, I just can't.

These are delicious! My brother gets these at walmart for when he goes kayaking in the summertime, but they tend to sell out pretty quickly. I decided to check on amazon to see if they had them and was pleasantly surprised. There are other brands of the freeze dried ice creams, but they are more expensive, and have less product per pouch. This brand is $0.02 more expensive (per pouch) to buy on amazon, as opposed to walmart, but they were delivered to my door less than 24 hours after I ordered them, and they have almost double the creamy deliciousness of the astronaut brand. My SO preferred the neapolitan flavour and was hesitant about the sandwich type; however as soon as he tried it he decided they were just as delicious.Since they are an add on product I actually just ordered a whole dozen of them, so that I wouldn't have to wait for them to be attached to a qualifying order.

Pretty good...many crumbs!
These were fun to try. Our group of kids enjoyed the novelty, but weren't sold on it. After the second bite, they do taste pretty much like an ice cream sandwich, but I prefer the Mtn House neopolitan over the sandwich. Parts do break off as you eat, so even though there are no drips from melting ice cream, you definitely will get crunchy crumbs and chocolate wafer parts falling off, so don't feed these to a group of kids indoors unless you follow them with a vacuum! :)

Meringue and chocolate cookie
It's not freeze-dried ice cream, it's meringue between two slabs of chocolate cookie. It's very tasty but a bit brittle so don't expect it to come out of the packaging in one piece. I feel it's a little over priced but I bet it would be a real treat at the end of a day's hiking.Just imagine a regular chocolate and vanilla ice cream bar but with meringue instead of ice cream. I think the mint one tastes better.

No sticky fingers
It wasn't bad, actually. The taste and smell were definitely ice cream sandwich. Once you get past the freeze dried consistency, it's like eating the real thing without the sticky fingers. (Although sticky fingers are part of the pleasure for me!)

Great for camping and it tastes great for a freeze ...
Great for camping and it tastes great for a freeze dried product. If you buy this thinking it will be the like the real thing, you might be disappointed. If you buy this product taking into consideration that it is freeze dried, you will not be disappointed. I believe most of the negative comments on this product is due to the fact that the people purchasing it do not have much experience with freeze dried food and were expecting it to be more like a real ice cream sandwich. I've tried other brands of freeze dried ice cream sandwiches and Mountain House has by far the best one.
