Q: how good are the transformers for this price?

The description says this snake is not transformer isolated: "These splitter snake cables do not have splitter transformers, ground-lift switches, or multi-pin disconnects. These splitter cables are straight send snakes and do not have any returns." The trunks are simply directly soldered to the jacks. You'll have to be careful when switching phantom power and making connections. Always make sure you mute your channels on both mixers/DACs/audio interfaces when making any changes.

Q: Can be send and returns signal for headphone

Hi Ale, While you may be able to adapt the XLR male fantail sides into 1/4" TRS, you would need to be careful to keep your overall distance as short as possible. With these SARMSS split snakes being hardwired, you have to factor the length of both fantails together, which would be 20 foot. Plus, you have to add the distance of the cable you are connecting to the SARMSS, to this 20 foot fantail length. You typically want to keep stereo unbalanced cable runs (or any unbalanced signals) under 25 foot if possible. Q: Is it possible to use one side of a split Y signal and not the other without a loss of quality?

Hi Michelle, Because these SARMSS are a hard-wire split, there is a -3 dB loss of signal on either side, where you use both sides or not. Usually the mixer(s) you have connected on either side are enough to make up for this -3 dB loss. There is no additional loss if only using one side.
