Skate guards are essential equipment for protecting your blades while walking off the ice, and the Top Notch guards from Guardog are also really fun! Choose your favorite color and style - glittery Glitz, pearlescent Pearlz, almost translucent Gelz, color-changing Chameleonz, or classic solid colors. For even more fun, see the listings for the scented Mintz, Swirlz, or Cotton Candyz versions or the Chameleonz version that changes color when it gets cold! The guards are made to fit most figure skate blades and some hockey blades anywhere from 6 inches to 10+ inches long (the upper limit varies by shape and type of blade). Simply use the included sizing chart to mark and cut the guards as short as you need them to leave a small gap between the two pieces of the guard. The included springs hold the guards securely in place while you walk, and make it easy to put them on and take them off quickly. Sold in pairs. Made in Canada.

Not universal! Too small even for women's size 8 skates!
These guards are NOT universal. I wear size 8 women's Jacksons and these are just slightly too small. So if you wear that size or larger, don't buy these. However, I'm sure they're fine for smaller skates.

Nice skate guards!!
Where do I start this review?? I absolutely love these skate guards! They are really pretty and they color change!!! When I’m in for my ice session, my skate guards turn purple from the coldness of the rink which is so cool. I’m 16 and I’ve skated since I was 3.5 years old, and these are probably the nicest guards I’ve ever had appearance and durability wise. My skate blades are around 9 inches long, and all I had to do is cut down one piece from each side. The guards are also really easy to assemble which Is a good plus. The only bad thing that I have on these guards is that there’s a big noticeable blue blotch of what looks like dye on the side of one of my guards, but all that matters is that the guards do their job so I don’t really mind it. I definitely recommend this purchase, and I will buy another set of guards once these wear down.

Love them but too small for larger figure skate sizes.
would give it 5 stars because I absolutely love mine but the truth to it is that the guards are not universal as they claim to be. I bought the silver sparkly one for me and bought some black ones for my brother. The guards fit my blades (9 2/3", My boot size is a 6) like a glove with no cutting or adjusting needed. I found the set up fairly easy and they have proven to be very durable, & I'm pretty hard on my blade guards. My only problem with them is that they are too small for people who have larger skate/blade sizes. The gap was way too big on my brother's blade (used my guard in the photo because black ones were returned). He is a size 9 boot with 11 1/3'' blade. Although it still provides the blade with a flat surface to walk on, a good portion of the blade isn't covered. All in all- great product, false advertising, & doesn't cater to larger sizes. :/*A way to fix this issue would be to order another pair of guards and add in a third piece but paying another $12 for an extra 2'' to each cover is not really worth it.

Completely Adjustable (as long as...)
Update since using these. I've upgraded my rating to 4 stars. They seem to work fine, but I can't go all the way to a 5-star rating because there is clearly a limit to the size skate intended to be used by these, but the marketing doesn't reflect that. Additionally, there is a risk that the guard will come apart if I'm not super careful putting them on or taking them off the skates. It's as if no one taller/larger than a 12 year old skates.* 3 stars until I use these enough to warrant more or less. The packaging says "Completely Adjustable" and "Fits most types of Hockey & Figure Skate blades". I just received a pair for my size (US) 13.5 hockey skates and the instructions say, "Unacceptable - centre gap too large – more than 3/4".Well, I didn't need to cut them down at all, but assembled, there is a gap of almost 2" between the front and rear guard. They appear to fit well, despite the gap, and despite me thinking the spring was going to come loose and snap back at me. So why do the instructions say that a gap of more than 3/4" is unacceptable? I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work with a gap that large. Perhaps it's more a liability thing, like, if I'm walking around and I decide to walk on a surface that causes damage within the gap (like the edge of a sidewalk or something). I'd be happy with that explanation, as long as they work and don't damage my skates, or me!

A fun twist on your standard skate guards
These are your standard two-piece, nothing too fancy about them skate guards that I have been using in various colors since I began in the sport of figure skating in the mid 1990's. I enjoyed the color change feature of these guards - although occasionally I forget that they will be a different color after a few sessions than they were when I first put them on the boards each day! They are fairly easy to cut and assemble once you are used to the process of doing so (I recommend a sharp, heavy knife to cut them to size, and to have the end of the springs that the screws go through facing to be as close to the guard as possible), and they have held up quite well so far.If you are an ice dancer with dance blades on your skate, please be advised that you will need to cut one side of these guards down to match the shorter end in order to use them with your skates - otherwise the long side will hit the heel of your boot and not stay put or overhang the toe and make it more difficult to walk in the guards. Synchro skaters with synchro blades would also have this issue - anything with that short heel means that these guards will require a little bit of (fairly quick and easy with a sharp knife) modification. While the new Rockerz guards are very popular, these have worked best for me with ice dance blades and I will continue to use them for many years to come!

I hate these skate guards
Let me first say that we have used several different skate guards from various companies on many types and sizes of skates. These guards didn't work for us at all. They seemed to get bigger as she walked with them on her skates which caused them to unexpectedly twist off the skate as she walked which defeats the purpose of protecting the blade if you don't know when it will suddenly NOT be protected. We will have to re-cut and re-assemble these to *hope* that works. They also are supposed to change color from pink to purple when cold. We were in the cold arena today for about 4 hours; the guards were even touching ice-cold bare cement for part of the time and they never changed color while in use. I put them in my freezer for 10 minutes and only then did they have like 4 tiny spots of purple. My daughter was disappointed with these & I would not recommend buying them.

Not easy to use, color doesn't not change as expected. Not recommended.
First of all, I never thought I have to "customize" a new item: in order to fit to my daughter's skates I have to cut short which is not easy. Second, the length of this guards has to be perfectly fit to the blade, otherwise it easily slip off. Then the spring is very tight, you have to be very careful to take it off straight (no any angle), otherwise it broke from the middle. It's so tight that my daughter cannot get it off easily. Last, the color doesn't change color, very disappointed. Won't buy again and also won't recommend to others.

Great!
Delivered as advertised, on time. Very happy with the purchase.Helpful tip for 1st time buyers of this type of skate guard, you have to cut the pieces to the correct length for the skate, this is not too difficult to do with a razor blade knife (like an exacto knife), and you have to screw on the springs (philips head screwdriver). There are really good instructions in the package on how to measure the length correctly before cutting.

Pleasantly surprised!
I ordered 2 pairs despite reading some negative reviews. I wanted to give them a chance. I’m so glad I did! Both pairs work great. 1 pair is skate 8 (silver cover) and fit perfectly. The other pair is skate 10 and the gap is a little larger, but still work. Not THE most secure, but it gets the job done :)

Just don’t
This product is useless. The spring does not actually have a way to stay connected to the other end. I’ve tried for 30 minutes and it keeps popping out and I’m going to throw this item into the garbage. Save yourself the trouble and buy something that’s better quality and ideally pre-assembled.

Product is much smaller than it appears to be.
These skate guards are extremely small. Far too small for adult skates. They are for children's skates but the description does not say this. And, they are not returnable. I bought 2 pairs and I'm stuck with them. Very dissapointed.

Stay on while walking
Easy to adjust for the blade length. Stay on while walking between the house and the backyard rink.
