Avène Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream, Face Moisturizer, face cream for sensitive skin, helps restore skin barrier, restorative cream, safe for infants, children and adults

In seeing so many negative reviews I felt compelled to weigh in as this is my favorite moisturizer. I have very dry, menopausal skin. Additionally, I have rosacea which seems to have been a nice gift from said menopause (you can only laugh, right?). It's very common for those of us in our 50's to have a compromised skin barrier and when an issue like rosacea is present, even more so. Because of all this my skin is very intolerant to most moisturizers and nearly all actives (over the last few years I've had to discontinue my retinols and chemical exfoliators). While ingredients like ALA's, petrolatum, mineral oil, parafin/bees wax, and lanolin are well tolerated and known to be quite soothing, they don't hydrate very well as they are more occlusive than moisturizing. Enter this product. Magically, it does both! It's marketed as a protective cream, which again implies occlusive, but it penetrates like no other. Gone is the tight, dry feeling that persisted even when I had a heavy layer of product on my skin (my previous moisturizer was Eucerin Original Healing Cream -- which still has its uses -- because it was the only thing I could put on my skin outside of squalane oil during a flare).Now, no topical can cure rosacea. However, the right product can calm the skin, repair the damaged lipid barrier, and improve its appearance. This moisturizer does just that and it's become my holy grail. Since starting this I've also added in the Cicalfate Serum which has only aided in repairing my skin. Another Avene product that works great for me is the XeraCalm Balm which helps with itching. I use all three of these daily and they've really helped fix the secondary issues that come with rosacea.As for the complaints about it being greasy or too heavy. I can see this not working for people with normal or oily skin (or perhaps only in moderation). But my skin loves the heavier weight and because one of the ways I soothe a flare is to keep a tiny mister bottle on hand and repeatedly spray my face so I have to guard against the drying effects of evaporation. These products are so lipid heavy that I can wet my face all day long without worrying about that, though I do reapply throughout the day.As for the watery consistency issue, I haven't had that problem but it does caution on the packaging not to expose the product to temperatures below 41 degrees F (5 C). I suspect that if it gets too cold either because of the weather or because of whatever warehouse it sat in during transit it will separate. Maybe open the package and before squeezing some out look to see if it has split and then shake it up/message the tube.So, if you have skin like mine don't hesitate to try this product. I'm leaving this absurdly long review for my struggling brothers and sisters out there with rosacea in hopes that it provides some relief! Happy moisturizing, internet strangers. ;)

I’ve been using this for close to a year and it is amazing for my super sensitive and dry skin. I have perioral dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, and rosacea and live in Minnesota with bitter cold and the heater running over half the year. Cicalfate cream doesn’t flare any of these and it helps reduce redness and completely resolves dry skin. I use about a pea size amount AM and PM,, apply to dry skin, massage in, then mist with the Avene thermal water spray. Although the cream is thick, the slight white cast absorbs within a few minutes. I do not wear foundation so I don’t know how this affects it.it doesn’t burn my eyes and I’m a contact lens wearer. A big tube of cream lasts me the better part of a year.

Friends, this is THE skincare product! This is like superfood for your skin. My skin is hydrated, DEEP forehead wrinkles are minimized, and my rosacea is the most tame that it’s ever been. It’s a little heavy so I use it as my night cream. After one week, I’ve tossed out creams from Beekman, F.A.B., and Biossance because this humble cream outperforms them all. I have combo skin with very few blemishes or breakouts, for reference.User note: shake the bottle before using it. The water does separate but you can mix it back up in your hand.

I don’t know what kind of magic juju they put in this stuff, but it is nothing short of miraculous. I’m in my early 50s and when I visited my mother with a rash on my arm, she sent me home with half a tube she had on hand. I had no idea what it was. I looked it up and it appeared to be diaper cream. I set it aside. Weeks passed. The rash became so itchy and nothing was helping. I remembered this cream. With low expectations but nothing to lose, I finally tried it. It worked! The rash also seemed to be in one small spot on my face. I hesitated, thinking it was so thick it would certainly cause a breakout. It fixed it! No breakout!! I read more about it and saw people here recommending it for rosacea. Like an insane person, I put it all over my face, even though I was certain it would aggravate my cystic acne. My rosacea went away! My acne went away!! WTF. There is no rational explanation for how this cream can cure rashes, rosacea and cystic acne, while also moisturizing the skin. Now I use it every night. My skin hasn’t looked this clear in years. It puts everything I’ve ever tried, for any affliction, over the counter or prescribed by my dermatologist, to shame. Magic juju is all I can think. Get some.

I don’t think I’ve ever written a product review in my entire life, but I thought my experience could help someone else dealing with sensitive and aggravated skin. After dealing with a rash on my neck on and off for about a month, nothing was helping. A desperate ChatGPT search led me to this product and I never want to be without it!! My neck was extremely red and irritated— Avene was delivered to my door just before 10pm and upon my first application I was shocked it didn’t sting at all (even CeraVe burned). I was hopeful it would at least soothe the rash overnight. Imagine my shock when I woke up the next morning and less than 12 hours after the first application, my neck was COMPLETELY clear. I couldn’t believe it!!! A true miracle product. These photos speak for themselves!!

The media could not be loaded. I took my chance despite the complaints about it being watery because of the good reviews about it being effective. It got here last night and I was too excited to try it that I forgot about the consistency problem, and sure enough when I squeezed it,alot of bluish liquid came out.So I boiled some water and soaked the bottle in a cup while the water is still hot to the touch for a good 10-15 minutes. I massaged the bottle for a coupleof minutes after that and it's good now. 🥰 Hope it stays that way. 😂
