Excellent for Outdoor Wood Projects but Not Ideal for White Paint
I used this RustOleum Marine Spar Varnish on a wooden patio table, and the results were great. The varnish goes on smoothly and gives a rich, glossy finish that really enhances the natural wood grain. It made the surface look clean and polished, almost like something out of a professional woodshop. It held up well against sun, rain, and humidity. After weeks of summer weather, the finish still looks fresh with no cracking or fading. This varnish definitely gives long lasting protection and works especially well on natural or stained wood. One thing to note — I tested it on a white-painted surface, and it added a slight amber tint. So I would not recommend using it over white or very light colors if you want the color to stay pure. It is better suited for darker or natural wood tones.Overall, this is a reliable and high quality varnish for outdoor furniture or any wood that needs extra protection from the weather. I’ll definitely use it again for future woodworking projects.

Beautiful rich color and gloss
So far this product has been great. Our contractor has always used another varnish that recently got discontinued, sending me on a lengthy research project to find a good replacement. I finally decided on this Rustoleum spar varnish as we are really after the marine high gloss and superior water protection for our outside cedar soffits and porch railings. We received on time, and all cans were sealed and intact. No leaks. Our contractor used the first can and came to find me - he said "yes! this is a good one, thank you for finding it!".The first coat goes on well (although that first one soaks in a lot so be prepared to use a lot of product), seals the wood beautifully and brings out a gorgeous color. The subsequent coats take less product and add more color, depth, richness and then build to the high gloss finish as you add more coats. We thinned the first coat to 75% varnish 25% mineral spirits, the second coat to 90% varnish and 10% mineral spirits, and our third and beyond coats are full varnish. It's not cheap, but it's less than it's highly ranked competitors and it works really well.

Beautiful gloss finish with light amber coloring but allow longer drying than stated on label.
I used Rust-Oleum 207008 Marine Spar Varnish to finish a marine hatch cover 5/4 African Mohogany in a temperature & humidity-controlled room with a 71°F temperature and a humidity of 44%. I applied a super light - thin coat using a foam brush. I allowed 19hrs. and the first coat was not fully hard cured to the point that I would not even attempt to sand as it would just foul up the sandpaper. The finish was superb and after 19hrs was easily able to be handled but not to the point of light sanding to ally a second coat. This is a 5/4" thick Flat hatch that is 12.25" x 13.25" so there are no curves, or uneven surfaces were there may have settled a heavier coat compared to another spot. The African Mahogany was at a 18% moisture content for a year when the fist coat was applied. The 207008 Marine Spar Varnish is great but the 2hrs dry to touch and 8hs. refinish is just a guideline and with my mahogany in a controlled environment I need more like 30hrs. before light sanding and recoating and with two sides and three coats it appears that my little marine hatch will be a week+ long finishing job.

LOVE....Love....Love this product
I actually purchased this product a couple of years ago and just so happen to need it again. It is wonderful and actually a marine product for boats, so you know it has to be sturdy and strong. We used it on our front porch to keep the boring bees away and stop them from boring into the wood to hatch their young. Anyway, It is very easy to clean with clean with a hose, if even necessary. The wood didn't discolor and it looks brand new. This product is very durable and will last a long time.
