Do you need two for a normal 36-inch freezer door or will one spring-assist do the job?

Basically most coolers only require one spring assist hinge. However as things get older and things tend to settle sometimes one just won't cut it. In fact the reason for my purchase was to add an additional one on an existing walk in that wasn't making a real good seal. Easy to change out and definitely made a difference.

The base attached to the wall is just over 2 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches. The part attached to the door is just over 9 1/2 total inches. (7 1/4 ish from the edge of the door to the end of the hinge) If you are replacing on a Kalt door, I bought these and the replaced it perfectly.

What is the weight capacity of the 1248 hinge?

It depends on the width of the door. @ 36” the capacity is 220lb @ 33” it’s 240lb @ 39” it’s 200lb
