what kind of material are these patches made of?

Vinyl. Like a clarinet mouthpiece patch but a little thicker.

Can you put this product on a piccolo?

I don’t have a piccolo but I would imagine it would be possible though it might need to be trimmed down.

Can these be used on a wood flute without damaging the wood?

I would think there would be no problem. The “stickiness” isn’t permanent, and any residue could be easily removed without leaving any trace.

What are the dimensions of each patch, primarily the thickness?

They are 1-3/8" long and 3/4" wide. The thickness is minimal. I find them to be a great asset to keeping the mouthpiece in place, preventing any slipping from perspiration. Easy to apply, easy to remove.

Great for hand position support too!

I found these a bit too thick for the lip plate & so used them as grip support patches on the body of the flute instead. Honestly, they’re fantastic for this purpose! I would encourage Protec to consider also marketing a slightly larger/more oblong version of the patch for finger/hand position support. I play flute professionally & everyone I tell about these patches has bought them for the same purpose & loves them, so we would all buy them!

Finally something that helps with my flute

I have always had a problem with the skin under my lip getting sore from contact with my flute. Nothing I tried worked or felt comfortable or wouldn't damage my flute. These lip plate patches feel almost like skin. They keep your flute from sliding around because they have a texture. A wonderful solution to the problem.

Prevents nickel allergy reaction

We discovered my 11 year old daughter has a nickel allergy after 6 months of using her flute in band class. Her bottom lip started swelling. Nickel allergy runs in our family.
