The coil is waterproof and can be submerged, but the control unit is not. You can put the coil to any depth as long as you do not get the control unit wet.

It depends on the size of the target and the type of ground. Large targets can be detected deeper and smaller targets can be more shallow.

Does the unit have pinpoint mode as will as the pin pointer?

Yes, the 440 features a pinpoint mode.
