I don't think it can be used on the bed; it is made for floor, hard and plane surfaces.

Is the folding version as stable as the original? What is the weight of the folding version vs. original? Thanks!

I am 5'2" and it fits me well. It is stable. I did not use the original chair for comparison. But, after reading previous reviews am glad I bought the larger size I did. I would consider taking this backpacking as it is fairly light. I cannot weigh it.
