Works brilliantly and such great value
This is a brilliant gadget that splits the Ethernet supply to other devices. I have a smart TV which allows me to watch iPlayers and YouTube etc. I then bought a YouView box and plugged into the TV and then suddenly realised that that needed access to the router too ... which was a problem because I only have one ethnet socket in the lounge. So I did a little research and this gadget appeared to split the supply, had great reviews and appeared such great value. If I'm honest, I really didn't know whether this would work, but decided to order anyway. The item was delivered very promptly, with Amazon's usual efficiency and I have to say, it works a treat! It's only the size of ... remember those old audio cassette boxes? ... well, about as big as one of those? (Kids, ask a grown up!)It comes with a power supply. That surprised me because I don't think he description makes this clear, although when I think about it, it's pretty obvious that it would have one. Oh yes, if you do order one of these, make sure you have Ethernet cable ... this doesn't come with any.Overall, a fab product which is so easy to set up and as I've said above, great value for money. Don't pay any more!

Simple to set-up. Brilliant in use.
Review of YL-SF1005D 5-port switch. My router is located in an upstairs office and I wanted to connect it to a wired Youview box located downstairs I initially tried linking them via a wireless link which I attempted with several different types of repeaters, I then tried making the link using Powerline adapters but none gave me a reliable connection and throughput. In the end I did what I’d been trying to avoid and ran a Cat 5e cable from the upstairs room downstairs and connected to it this 4 port switch.I plugged the cable from the router into one of the ports and the Youview box into another and was up and running in a moment. The thought of the hassle of running a cable had made me look for other options, but the crazy thing is it actually took far less time running a cable than I’d wasted trying to get the more technically elegant solutions to work. It was far cheaper and works like a dream plus I have the bonus of being able to use the other ports to connect three more devices..There really is no setting up with this switch. Just plug in the power supply, the cable from the router and the cables from your devices and you’re up and running.

just what was needed
I must say the item that arrived is not the one pictured here, but is exactly the same. So, on to the review...I needed a way to get Ethernet to my home cinema system without breaking the bank on wifi dongles. So I found a 10m Ethernet cable and this little guy and strung the cable from my router (sky) to the input on this hub and then cables to telly, sky box and blue ray. Super easy!Everything works just like it should. No bottlenecks, lots of unsightly wires behind TV cabinet but that is the wired way. For £10 including 10m cable I scored here! You would do well to go this route if you have the other half's permission and don't want to spend loads on dongles... well recommended, just 4*'s though as the item received is not the item listed, but pretty much exactly the same. Oh, the power plug is UK and for some weird reason the plug on the box is on the side... its pretty small and you can wall mount it as well. Seems to be a keeper.

So far, so good.... Update: not great!
Got this a few days ago, after a previous wifi extender just stopped working after a couple of years, and that supplier was pretty inept at offering solutions other than 'contact the seller'! I've tried a number of extenders in the past, many just not acceptable at all, and were returned for refund. It seemed impossible to get this TP-Link to initialise, and I tried various ways. So I sought online for troubleshooting solutions, and one was to download their 'Tether' app to my phone. That worked seamlessly right away, asking for my Wifi network password, and device to connect, and it was all set up in a few minutes. So I moved it to the bedroom where my desk is located. This is the dead area, that CAN connect to the living room router, but not consistently. In the bathroom next door it doesn't connect about 95% of the time. When I CAN connect my laptop to my router, speeds are up to about 140 Mbps. Now with the extender, I can get this speed but more usually it's in the 50-80 range. If the router connection is slower (like at peak times), the extender is always faster than the long connection. Works very well in the bathroom too.So it's an improvement on the inconsistent direct connection and much more accessible.Only niggly thing Is that if my phone connects to it and I move back into the living room, it doesn't always switch back to the direct connection [showing xxxxx_EXT instead of just xxxxx], and even vice versa, so I have to check at times that it's on the nearer one. That might just be my phone. But for the static laptop, this is no problem. If this stops working at any point, I'll come back to downgrade the review. (Oct. 24)Update: 18/11/24. I wasn't getting great results from this. I was due an upgrade on my Wifi from 125 to 250, so I thought that would help. Not that much. While the booster is consistent in providing connection, the speeds were consistently between 20 and 30! Just not enough to make the price of this purchase worth it. Returned for a refund, and the engineer who upgraded the broadband told me to get a mesh instead of a booster; always better, and solves the problem of switching between the main and the extension, as it's all under the same network name. I've done that, and speeds are consistently higher now, over 50 up into the 70s.

Easy to set up and extend existing network
Very easy to set up with the app and to link to my existing TP network.I have Eufy cameras outside the house which I needed a better wifi signal for and these helped extend my current network for this purpose. My only issue (which maybe my mobile phone network provider as opposed to the product) is I can’t get wifi calling functioning well at all. Would be interesting to know if others have this issue?
