Seems to do the job!
We got this more as a preventative measure as so many people we knew had lice. We check the kids hair regularly in the bath with a bunch of conditioner in their hair and they seem to find it quite relaxing! It's quite tough on tangles but easy to use and slides through well otherwise. Compact, easy to clean and quite reasonable price for a much needed product! So far so good!

USE 👏 WITH 👏 COCONUT 👏 OIL!
One day I noticed some pale speckles in my three year old daughters hair and my heart sank. Oh no. She's got nits. I felt very uneasy about applying chemical shampoos onto her delicate head, I've heard that the majority don't even work that well! So it was decided we would buy a nit comb and drag the blighters out. When searching for nit combs I came across the nitty gritty. It was a fair bit more expensive that the generic white combs you can pick up from the pharmacy for a couple of quid but after a bit of research I decided to cough up and buy one.The comb was much larger than I expected and we received one with green detailing. The teeth are incredibly close together, as you would expect, but they also have a kind of spiral texture swirling down each tooth to give maximum removal strength. We firstly tried combing my daughter while she had a thick layer of conditioner in her wet, pre brushed hair but we found that the comb was pulling quite a bit, particularly at the ends. Then we tried slathering her in coconut oil and this was our absolute saviour. The comb slid through her hair like a knife through butter, there was no whining or complaining and we could see the lice on the comb. After each pass I wiped the comb on a cloth and continued to comb until I could see no more lice. After the first combing, I washed and dried my daughter's hair and had a bit of an inspection and all looked good, no signs of any eggs. After about a week I still couldn't see any signs of eggs but did another combing just to be sure, no eggs were found at all. One comb was all that was needed to rid my daughter of head lice, I would never have even thought that possible.I would strongly recommend this to any parent, yes it is pricier than other combs but it is so effective and will last for years.

You do need this
I'm feeling rather evangelical about this. Having avoided nits for 11 years of parenthood they descended 3 months ago and have never really left. Having used bottle after bottle of 'nit lotion' and conditioners and though it's fine for the lice it has been impossible to remove all the nits from my kids thick, fine hair. In desperation i thought I would pay what I believed to be way too much for a nit comb.It arrived today and I immediately set to work. It has actually worked! For the first time I feel like we may actually have gotten all the nits out - not a little white horror in sight. Also will make the inevitable self-denitting much easier for those of us left to rid ourselves of the horrors as the little darlings frolic off to school to get fresh batch of lice to cultivate

Bought after other combs missed eggs and lice. 5 kids thick with hair
This has been a godsend. Other comb I got with full marks wasn’t cutting it. After going through hair with full marks comb and then this one there was loads of eggs and a few dead lice it had missed This nitty gritty comb brought loads more out , I would use olive oil too check for lice / nits , It works great too comb through and leaves hair really smooth as a bonus. I use it because my kids have sensory issues with hair brushing and olive oil makes it tug less. , I kept getting a re infection of head lice until using this comb. Crappy comb that came with full marks must of kept missing eggs. Also kept straightening kids hair on lower heat to fry the little B****rds so they couldn’t breed just in case the was a rogue few. Fingers crossed no more nits.

Does the job on the cheap; will last a long time
As many people will have experienced, dealing with nits is a total drain.Up until recently I had a pack of trusty nit combs which was my go-to and had lasted a number of years. However, due to the plastic material, they eventually deteriorated to the point of no return - impossible to clean and so brittle the teeth fell off in clumps. But there were benefits, which I'll touch on later. I have used chemical formulas and the fairly recent dehydration type formulas (the latter of which are very good), but with the frequency with which you may have to battle those dreaded nits, they can be expensive compared to a comb. The Nitty Gritty is pretty well represented with reviews, and rightly so. A very solid, sturdy metal construction with little grippy bits on the handle part, it's unlikely to bend or break unless you deliberately set out to destroy it! So no more breaking plastic components. Secondly, it has rounded edges on the base of the prongs, so it isn't likely to rip open your scalp anytime soon. Finally - the unique feature - is the spiral-like construction of the prongs, ensuring your nits and lice aren't able to easily stick in your hair.As usual, slapping conditioner on your hair is a good way to assist with the use of the comb to give yourself the best chance of ridding the lice from hair. The Nitty Gritty worked really well, and ran through the hair easily and picked up some of the smaller lice and eggs with a first pass. My one gripe is the colour of the comb. When I had the plastic set, the combs were in yellow and lilac colour, which really helped to see the eggs and lice easily. With the metal comb, it's not so easy to identify the little monsters, and you have to wipe on kitchen roll or similar to be able to properly see if the comb has picked anything up.It's definitely a stayer in our house, and is durable enough to be kept by the bath ready for routine checks. No disintegration or broken parts are expected because of its solid metal construction. The prongs don't hurt and, providing you've used ample conditioner, it shouldn't get tangled. If it was a problem, my kids would've let me know by now - so it's got the thumbs up from them.A good investment.
