What is the benefit of the gold-plated connector? As the cable is optical, surely it can get as corroded as it likes?

I find them to be better than any other type. It would take somewhere very damp to corroded it and if it was that damp it would be unsuitable for any electrical equipment. The first Gold one I purchased 7 years ago is still working fine I do hope this helps.

Can this type of cable be bent without fear of breakage?

It's a case of common sense - obviously, a sharp bend will not be good. I'm using it to carry sound from a haswell iMac to an analog 2.0 stereo system (remember them?) via an optical in DAC box. I was surprised how thick and well made the cable is and there are a few 90 degree bends on my 10 metre run - a radius of 5cm/2inches presents no problem in signal/quality loss that I can hear. I would imagine 2cm radius would be about as tight as I would go with this cable.

Has anyone used these cables to connect TV/Sky to a separate hi fi amplifier and speakers ?

Mine is connected from my sky box to my surround sound system and works great.

Has anyone successfully used the 12.5m or 15m length? I would like to order one but have read optical signal has a technical maximum of 10 meters

The build quality is first class, I have had no issues regarding the longer length however I have only used the 12.5 version.

Good quality cable with a very good warranty. Well manufactured and packaged with the end connectors covered with a protective cap to stop damage during transit. I hooked this up to my sound bar and it just worked. Audio quality is good thanks to the gold connectors and the size of the cable was perfect for my set up. All in all great value and great quality cable.
