What can I do to get rid of the strong smell before I help the little girls open them?

I don’t think there is really anything you can do to get rid of the smell. The one I received really didn’t smell that bad. After opening it and getting all the pearls out of it...I did throw it out in its plastic shipping bag and box. I hope that helps.

Yes of course, they are cultured freshwater pearls. I'm here is a test you can use to determine whether a pearl is real or fake. Take two pearls and rub them together. If they scratch each other, and form a powdery substance that you can wipe off and still see the pearls luster(you may still see a bit of a line where you scratched the pearls together) then it is real. If they slip and slide against each other, very slippery and don't scratch each other, they are fake.

Can I save the extra one I bought for 8 months or will it expire?

Yes it can keeps for 8 months, but I sugget you store it in the refrigerator until 8 months later.
