Very pleased with the light. You could use it as extra internal car light.
Please read update at the bottom of this review. This light is smaller than I imagined. It is 16cm high with the rotating circle fixed at highest. The metal stand cannot be removed but you can rotate the light and place the stand in a suitcase with the light flat. It won't take much room - as a light it is more useful than the torch I usually pack and if you could safely leave it in your room somewhere to catch the sun's rays during the day while you were out - great for lighting a strange bedroom without walking anyone else. Just remember where the on/off switch is.I am a bit niggled because the USB cable is only 35cm / 14" long another 15cm would have made a lot of difference. The cable has a RED coloured USB plug at one end and a little plug - same as the one on the charger for my Nokia phone - the teeny size. I think I'll take a short USB extension with the light when travelling.I bought two of the lights and found one already had some charge in it and the other didn't. The one that had charge in it I plugged into my laptop using the USB cable. A red light came on which I assume means it is charging or does it mean the light is connected to a power source. The red light is still ON some hours after I plugged the light into my laptop. The light when switched on is a bit brighter than when it arrived which I would expect - but when will I know when it is fully charged ?The leaflet/card that came with it tells you very little. The switch a white push for on and push for off rectangle is situated under the solar cells just above the little red diode light and the socket for the cable.By the way you can have the light ON when it is plugged into a USB socket thus using and charging at the same time.Being early March and no much sunlight I am not sure how much charge the other light has received or whether it will in fact light up.Will be back tomorrow to add the overnight findings to this review.UPDATE - Well it is 10.30 am. and the first light which has been ON and unconnected to electric power since 3.00 am. so that is seven and a half hours and it is though not bright as at first it is enough to see your way clear across a bedroom floor. The second light lit brightly at 3.00 am. having had only dull daylight I then put that light on USB charge and it has now has a good light.Neither little red light went out while either of the lights were "ON CHARGE" so I have no idea how much charge the lights have absorbed.By the way, whilst the unplugged second light was near my laptop screen its red light came on.So there it is - seven and a half hours and still shining. I am well pleased.Edit - May 2015Took it on holiday with me. It was half charged. Left it on the pull-cover which covered our belongings in the back of the car as it is so light in weight and by the time we got to Butlins in Skegness it was fully charged by the sunlight. Never needed the charging cable while away. Just popped it on the apartment's windowsill while away for a top up as I needed it at night to find my way to the bathroom to save switching on the large lights. Great as an additional light to read my Kindle ereader by in bed. Very glad I bought 2 of them.Never thought about it but it would be a great light to have in dashboard cubbyhole for added light in the car - just leave it in the sunlight e ery so often.

Spread the solar word.
Why isn't this product more well known ?In this era of expensive energy, getting light for, effectively, nothing is a great feeling. My only previous experience of home solar lamps was of the garden variety, which tend to be very dim and only suitable for mood lighting. As the name of the product shows, this is a task light and gives strong, bright and practical illumination.I use mine in the bathroom so I can brush my teeth without having to switch the main light on, but the applications are endless. Buy one now and start saving money on bills.

d.light s2 solar lantern
Simply the best value self contained solar powered light on the market currently. Small, efficient, bright and improved from the previous S1 model. Comes complete with a USB charge cable, but can still be charged using a standard fine tipped Nokia mobile phone charger (these are very cheap on Amazon). Stays bright on full charge for around 4 hrs. Makes a great night light as continues less bright for longer. It would be nice to see a range of different case colours including white for the European market.* UPDATE * JAN 13th 2014I ordered one of these very recently direct from D-light on Amazon UK on 1 Jan 2014 at £9.15 including delivery, it arrived within a week. This lower price has been the same since the S2 replaced the S1 D.light on Amazon UK last year. The current price on 13 Jan 2014 of £32.36 is extortionate! (almost 4 times the cost) and no matter how good the product DOES NOT CURRENTLY REPRESENT GOOD VALUE hence the 3 stars rather than 5. Although I assume the product remains the same quality, for the time being at least you may be advised to try elsewhere or a different product, I won't be buying any more of these until D.light start selling on Amazon UK again at the lower price (hopefully still £9.15 inc. delivery)* UPDATE * FEB 20th 2014Very pleased to see D-light are selling the S2 direct again(on pre-order) A bit disappointed that the price is currently £11.99 (with free delivery), that's still an increase of around 30% compared with the previous £9.15 (but a lot better than the previous £32.36 from the other seller) otherwise I would have awarded 5 stars again.

Versatile and Reliable
A great little light. It withstood accidentally being left out in a storm (although I wouldn't recommend this), charged quickly, held the charge well, and can be stood on the ground or hung from a hook. I used mine every day for 4 months without any trouble and gave it away, so it is still in use,

Fabulous product. Charges well with a very long lasting and bright light. I have been using mine around the house instead of the mains light as often as I can and my last electric bill was a lot lower than I expected it to be. I will be buying another very soon and hopefully I can get the bill even lower.
