The switch is extremely hot which I am concerned may point to a safety issue. Is it likely I have a faulty item? Daughter says it’s too hot to touch

Can the bulb be replaced?

Mine has only lasted 18 months and hasn't been on for 6 hours everyday. It hasn't been moved or tampered with? Shame as it was a really good light.

Would this lamp clip on cylindrical bed posts?

The clips can be stretched to 6.5cm, so probably yes.

Does this have an on/off switch? And if so how close is it to the actual light itself?

Yes, you can turn it on and off but it cycles through 4 settings: on, dimmer, dimmer, off, on, dimmer etc etc. It is a push button that is on a cable and if you stretch it out it is about 50cm form the actual lit up part but you could fold the cable back and clip it onto the thicker cable to make it more like 15cm from the lit up part.
