I purchased a WD Black 2TB SN770 NVME for this. The inclusion of both USBC and USBA cables is nice. It also includes the tool to open it and some heat mat to put on top of the NVME. Install was super easy. Hardest part was wiggling it out of the rubber wrap around. I plugged in the drive to my M1 Mac mini and it was detected immediately. I formatted it as APFS since it will only be used with Macs.Ran a speed test with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test and it was reporting 3,000mbps symmetric read and write. This is incredibly fast. I actually got a M4 MBP and compared it and it running the same speed as the internal storage. On my M1 it was not that fast. On idle it's barely warm. In use it heats up but it's more of a warm laptop temp. You can still pick it up and handle it no problem. Only time it really got hot I was writing about 1.3TB to it. So it was going all out. But in daily use, even running programs off it, it's not hot.The unit has a fan but I've never heard it. maybe if I was right next to it, but on my desk I can't hear anything. For the price you get a great enclosure with fantastic speed and performance. I did check the firmware of the controller and noticed it was only a version behind but updated it anyway. Still working great. Only issue I've had is it gets ejected automatically sometimes during macOS sleep mode. This happens maybe once a week. It's odd, but so far hasn't be a real issue. Just need to disconnect and reconnect to remount.Would definitely recommend this enclosure to anyone with Thunderbolt 3, 4 , or 5 on their computer. You'll expand your storage for far cheaper than OEM's will charge and get the same speed as your internal storage. Win/win.

We had an extra NVME drive and had it in an older slow case.I picked this out to house our 500gb NVME drive and it has worked great.It is all metal, has a rubber protector on it so it's not going to scratch up your cheap desk "wood."It comes with two cables USB-C to USB-C and a USB-C to USB-A (the older larger size.)Speeds are far above my older cheap samsung NVME but I was getting max performance out of the file transfers, really fast on videos and movies, little slower on mp3 and pics, as is normal with NVME SSDs.When the unit is plugged in and connected the case does get warm.Even warmer when you are copying files for long times, but the internal drive never had any issues and the drive never got above the 90~99°f range after hours of transfers between two PCs.All the heat is dissipated through the case and the tiny fan helps out as well on the inside.I cannot hear it but my GF can if she puts it up to her ear.Thermal pad really seems to work in pulling the heat into the metal lid and case, just take you time to place it down on the NVME so you don't stretch or pinch it, it's got to be centered and hitting all the chips on the board. top to bottom.And be careful when you go to install your NVME drive, pay close attention to how the notch in the drive goes into their screw post, I initially bent my NVME drive when I installed it at first. Not a big deal as I stopped and didn't torque it down.This was my fault, I got a magnifying glass and some light and reinstalled it with no issue, just a heads up if it slips the post you'll see the drive start to bend and if you do stop, back it out re-seat it and try again.When you plug it into windows it does warn you about thunderbolt, I do not have my WIN 10 PCs set up in the bios to use that so I think that is what the notice is about. You can turn those notices off in the settings.I have had no issues with the drive not disconnecting from Windows as I did with my past old NVME drive enclosures, so I have not had any file corruptions or had to scan the drive for errors.I have a Bi-directional USB-C switch and two long cables hooked up to both PCs now so I can just hit one button and it connects to the other computer behind me. Worth the extra money if you have two computers that can't transfer files over the network.Hope this helps.
