how close can you get to the edge when grinding with the dust shroud? in other words, what is outside diameter of this?

With the full shroud in place I was able to get within about 3/8" of the baseboard (I was grinding thin set mortar off of a plywood sub-floor). The shroud does feature a removable segment that will expose about 3/4" of the diameter of a 7" wheel, with a large vacuum (and a clean filter) the amount of dust that escapes with the segment removed is noticeable, but far less than using the grinder without the shield at all.

will this work with flap discs? in the process of refinishing my redwood deck

I used it with a type 29 but had to put an additional 5/8" washer so the flap disc would stand even with the edges of the dust shroud.

Please tell me this works on a dewalt!

It should work, the opening on this is adjustable so it should fit on a dewalt. I do have a makita grinder and it really works good
