what age is really ok for this game? (can a 10 y/o play?)

Yes, this is a great game for young ones. Please keep in mind that if your child has played Pandemic and Flash Point and can understand the concept this game will be simple. Watch the video on YouTube from Watch It Played and you will understand the concept after the first game. This game is amazing and keeps you on edge.

Does this game have a solo variant?

I play it solo most of the time. I just use 2 or 3 characters. It plays very well solo. One of my favorites!

Should i buy this or pandemic?

We have both. Pandemic has lots of expansions and we have most of them. Dead Men Tell No Tales is different enough that we enjoy them all.
