we are finding the range is about 25 feet.

Can you just purchase the poles? Bought lights before I seen the pole option

I like the fact you can use one or two of the poles when mounting the lights.

Can the motion detection sensor be disabled so the light stays on?

You can, the light is on a dim mode and when it detects motion it gets brighter. I love these lights.

Will tall shrubs cause the light to come on or will it take a solid oblect?

I do not have any tall shrubs on my property so I honestly could not say. I can tell you we have other types of sensors spotlights position higher than these on the dormers of our home and they will go on with heavy wind and rain. These gutter lights I have only seen come on when a person or animal has actually walked in the area.
