Can you put hot foods into them to store individual servings for later?

I always store hot food in glass containers, including freezing indivual portions in one cup glass containers. I would only put hot food in these bags once the food has cooled down, although I use them for freezing bread, etc., inside a freezer bag to avoid any contact with the plastic bags.

What is used in the seal? Is the glue strip made of plastic or petroleum products?

Whatever it's made of, it sticks very good.

would these be good for possible leaking toiletries?

No because they are not airtight and the paper can get soaked and start to tear.
