Does the water gush out like a real fountain or flow gently? I need something more subtle or my cat won't use it.

During routine maintenance cleaning of the pump there is a face plate you remove (pops off easily). Underneath is a flat plastic piece with a small 'gate' in the center the water comes through. There is a small adjustable slide on that gate that regulates water flow. I leave that gate wide open on my pet's drinking fountain. Is there a warranty for the pump motor? I received this fountian in early August and the pump is no longer working.

We have found that the impeller which is held in by a magnet can become off balance. There is a quick fix for this problem. If you look on page 9 & 10 of your manual there are instruction on how to take apart the pump. If you no longer have your manual you can go to www.youtube.com and search for Pioneer Pet Pump maintenance and they will show you how to take apart your pump. When you do this and remove the impeller after you put it back in give it a few spins this will help it stay in balance. You should be doing this once a month when you change your filters. I see a few posters have recommended distilled water. Why distilled? Don't you mean filtered water? Doesn't distilled water have a funny taste?

I use the same filtered water to fill it as I drink. I have a Pur filter on my facet which makes the water taste fine. It's the same filtered water I drink and the same filtered water my dog drank before I got the fountain. So when the filter died, I didn't bother replacing it since I only add good water and replace it regularly. Distilled water? I wouldn't want to have to drink that so I wouldn't expect my buddy to drink it either.

How frequently do they recommend to change the filter?
