My spouse has prehypertension and so we are concerned about salt.","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"I think the label has a mistake regarding sodium content. I bought this at a local international market and thought oh low sodium based on what it says in the back. \nHowever when I tasted it I realized, it was very salty, too much for me and not necessarily heart healthy unless consumed in very small amounts. Sometimes people think that Indian Black Salt is more heart healthy, there are some myths regarding that floating around on the internet so they may not even count the sodium of that in but it has just a bit less sodium than White Salt because it has a few other ingredients in its composition. Also it shows white and black salt within the first 3 ingredients which are usually the dominant spices mango being number 2. It lists as serving size 1/2 tsp or 2 g and claims that it only has 5.6 mg Sodium per serving. However I bet it has much more sodium than that in half a tsp. The seller mentions 17 % and I am not sure if that is for both kinds of salt in there or just the white one but it would be several hundreds mg of sodium in half a tsp for sure. So I would use it sparingly especially if you are concerned about hypertension or are on a heart healthy diet. There should be either some other versions out there with lower sodium if you ask around or make your own from scratch and reduce the amount of salt content this way. We are also on a heart healthy diet and were told not to exceed 2000 mg of sodium in one day to be on the safe side. Just one tsp of salt has that much sodium so it is nothing to toy around with because we already get plenty of sodium from our natural diet without adding to it using a salt shaker or a spicy salt mix like this one unless in very small amounts. So a little goes a long way. Most people don't even know it until they get poor health results. I hope this helps."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"What is the difference between chat masala & garam masala; and do they serve different purposes in indian cooking please?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Garam masala is used as an add-on spice generally when making curries.
