How bad is the smell? How far away from the bag is it noticeable?

When you first start to use them you will really be aware of the smell. But it dissipates over time. I wouldn’t put them near the open window of a home. But we have used several cycles of them and noticed a marked difference in our fly problem. It does take a couple rounds of the bags to really see a difference, but they truly work. Definitely worth putting up with the stink

Does this work on horse flies?

This will not work on Horse-flies. They are not attracted to smells. But for all other flies it works great!

Can you use this inside? I dont care about the smell.

I don't see why you couldn't use it inside if you have a fly problem. Initially I don't notice a smell until the bag gets full of hundreds of flies. typically the mfgr. used some type of rotted meat for the attractant but I don't notice a smell there either.

If it rains is it okay?

Rain causes no issue with the effectiveness of this product. We just took down the first bag to dispose of it today. This 2 weeks and 1 day of use and it was full of dead flies and maggots too! It rained significantly multiple occasions over the last two weeks while this bag was up. Flies are not active on rainy or windy days but they returned back to the bag almost immediately after the rain stopped.
