My first Quaker Boy disappointment
I literally have dozens of box calls. Some very expensive, some inexpensive. Some cheap ones sound better than the expensive ones. Almost all of them are at least acceptable. But this Quaker Boy...I understand that this is not an expensive call and QB does what they need to do to hit a price point. But this call is not as good as it could be, even at its price point. The entirety of the inside of the box is left with a very rough finish with lots of chips and fuzzed wood, The outside of the box is completely unstained and bare wood. Those two things still don't necessarily make it so a box can't sound good. Ugly boxes can sound good as long as the parts that make sound are shaped and finished properly. But in this case, those parts aren't. The sound rails are a disaster. The waterproof paint used has lots of bubble holes in it. There is only about an inch in the center of the sounding rails that produce any sound at all. And only a small portion of that inch makes any sound that produces any volume. The ends of both sound rails produce no sound at all. The ends of both sound rails are flat. Once of them has a groove in it formed by poorly applied paint. The ends of the sound rails are imortant. On a well made box call, the ends of the rails should be usable for high pitched sounds such as kee kees. Or at least for the change in pitch when yelping to give that rollover sound. This box can't do any of that. It produces a fairly flat tones, albiet raspy, yelp. Super basic.IMO, this call is unacceptable. It's just sloppily made. If you want a "waterproof" box call, try the Primos Waterboard. It costs a bit more, but exceeds expectations. The QB Hurricane, until quality is improved, is a not a good choice for even a beginner. There are better options.

Buy this thing if you want to smash some toms
Pretty sure i canโt post a picture of a dead turkey but you get the idea, I yelped and I had three turkeys(one hen, one jake, one gobbler) screaming back at me over and over. All I can ask for out of a box call, does itโs job.

Waterproof and chalk-free
Easy to yelp and cut from the get go. I'm not sure if it was clear in the listing but the Hurricane model is billed as being waterproof. There is a coating on the paddle/box rubbing surfaces that seems to eliminate the need for chalk, giving you a consistent sound, and making it waterproof. I suppose a fair question is how durable this coating will be. I would think that when the coating has eroded the box may become basically useless. I can see no erosion developing yet after only 30 minutes or so of practice. Looks like a good inexpensive call. If the coating holds up for a couple of seasons or three I will be quite pleased.
