Mama Bear Apologetics: Empowering Your Kids to Challenge Cultural Lies Review: Every Christian should read this book, but especially parents! - If you're a Christian parent, you want to raise your children to know and love the Lord, but there is no one sure-fired 100% way to parent that brings kids to Jesus. But we can make sure to point the way to a faith built on the solid foundation of truth. And Mama Bear Apologetics gives us the tools to build that foundation. One of my favorite quotes from the book is, "Blind faith is easy to lose. Faith grounded in evidence is harder to walk away from." - Hillary Morgan Ferrer. So how do we give our kids that kind of foundation? You could spend years studying apologetics or you can start with this book. Mama Bear Apologetics is like a cheat sheet for all the important concepts we need to know as parents to teach our children why we believe that Christianity is more than a good idea, it's the truth. Each of the authors writes with authority, but in a conversational tone that makes you feel like you could be sitting around the playground chatting. Each chapter walks you through the way the world twists the truth or subverts Gods' word and offers real ways to clarify our thinking and think critically about the issues. And this book is written by busy moms for busy moms! Mama Bear Apologetics gets to the heart of each issue quickly and gives you easy answers to deal with each type of objection. I really appreciate the end of each chapter walks you through a concrete way to handle each subject. I love learning, but if I don't have a concrete take-away, sometimes what I've read doesn't stick. MBA makes sure you know how to use each concept to solidify not only the faith of your children, but your own, and give you the confidence to share your faith with the people you encounter in your daily life. Every chapter is so good, you won't want to put it down. But I really appreciated the chapter on Linguistic Theft. I know that words are being misappropriated, but since reading that chapter, I've started seeing just how many words aren't being used authentically and how that shapes our thought processes. The chapters on naturalism, truth, evidence, and relativism are really excellent. I love how the authors take concepts that we've heard so often, we've internalized them without realizing it and show us how flawed they are. Kids are walking away from faith in larger numbers than ever because they don't know how faulty these 'great sound bite' ideas really are. But MBA exposes the flaws in their logic. While MBA covers just about every main objection to Christianity and explains many contradictory worldviews, we can teach our kids HOW to think critically using the skills outlined in this book even when confronted with an argument that wasn't specifically covered because they covered how to discern the message and measure it against truth and logic. We don't have to leave our brains at the door to be Christians. In fact, we need to use them now more than ever. One chapter that was particularly important as the mother of a young girl is the one on toxic feminism. I want my daughter to see herself correctly as an image bearer of God created in His likeness, loved and cherished deeply. But I don't want her to fall victim to the viciousness passing as the "pro-women movement". MBA helps us see the beauty in being women without feeling like we have to go to war against men. The book dispels the clear contradictory messages in third wave feminism that are actually damaging to women and families. And challenges us as a body of Christ to do better in how we protect women. MBA ends with a chapter full of ways to use all this information to make a difference for the next generation. I really can't recommend this book enough. The wisdom and knowledge of the various authors is astounding. The years of their experience and educational background is a treasure trove that we get to ravage to contend for the faith of our children. Every Christian should read this book, but especially parents ready to Roar like a Mama Bear for the faith of their children. I received a copy from the publisher to review, but also purchased an additional copy because I think this book is that important! Review: Empowers your kid by empowering you - The Mama Bear - I am a Papa Bear privileged to be part of Mama Bear Apologetics Launch Team. I have been involved in Christian Apologetics since 2008 and hold a Master of Divinity from Liberty University. I am currently working toward my Master of Theology in Christian Theology, also at Liberty University. I have read many books on Philosophy, Theology and Apologetics and I got to say this is the most unique book I've read on the topic by far. Most Apologetics books deal with abstract concepts like the existence of God, objective morality, the Resurrection of Christ, etc., and do so on a academic, technical level. This is not a bad thing as it is much needed. However, Hilary and her gang of Mama Bears really fill a void in meeting a specific demographic - mothers and or woman who care about children in general - on a sophisticated level but in a practical and realistic way. They don't just deal with far off concepts with a bunch of academic jargon. They take these difficult matters and put them in a simple and understandable way. That is not easy to do and I applaud the authors for this often daunting achievement. Some of the cool topics they discuss that you will not likely find in your standard Apologetic text are subjects like, Linguistic Theft (such as: Love, Truth, Tolerance and Justice) and how they have been obscured (stolen) from their actual meaning; Self-Helpism; Skepticism; Emotionalism; Marxism; New Spirituality; Feminism; and Progressive Christianity. These topics are topics we will certainly face everyday as we combat cultural shifts into moral relativism (and other nasty ideas) where we may not face complex questions like Causality and the Existence of God or the intricacies of mechanisms in Naturalism or Intelligent Design (though they are addressed in this book to a more basic degree). This is what makes this book so important. It empowers Mama Bears to gain a better understanding of what is happening in our society and how to address them through knowledge. Moreover, how to help your kids understand the lies so they can spot them on their own, using their own ability to think and discern (known as the Chew-and-spit method) - Thanks to Mama Bear! Another cool feature is the layout of the book. Each Chapter is unique in its own topics but the authors follow a general format using the ROAR acronym; R-recognize the message, O-offer Discernment, A-argue for a healthier approach, R-Reinforce through discussion, discipleship, and prayer. Each section concludes with a PAWS for Prayer and Discussion Questions. So this is an engaging book that also fosters relationship building with your child. It encourages Mama Bears to actually engage their child intentionally. No book on Apologetics I know of offers such a gift. Why do you need this book? We are losing our children to lies. The Church is experiencing a "Youth Exodus" at alarming rates and the ages of kids leaving is getting younger. Kid's have questions and we need to be prepared to provide answers. If we don't someone else will. And, we can't guarantee who will be teaching our kids from day to day. Mama Bears are likely to be the most influential member of the household in whom the kids usually turn to for the most crucial of developmental needs. So, I stand with Mama Bear Apologetics calling all Mama Bears to take up the call to defend their cubs against cultural and social lies.

Get it. Read it. Share it!!
If I could give this book 100 stars I would. You do not have to be a mom to need this book. It does an amazing job of laying out worldly truth claims and clarifying what is truth and biblical vs what is being falsely claimed. I am recommending this book to all of my mama bear friends, but also anyone who wants to have a better understanding about truth and language to explain it. Great, great book!!!

Love this book! This has quickly become one of my most favorite books to date! It is for moms... but really everyone will benefit from its analysis of the culture's messages that are bombarding us. It's very readable and yet extremely insightful. What I appreciate in this book is that they give a brief history of the topic, then walk you through a ROAR acronym (Recognize the messages gjven, Offer Discernment (the good messages/intents and the lies), Argue for a healthier approach, and then Reinforce through discussion, discipleship and prayer). This ROAR acronym really us a great way to work through each of the messages our culture throws at us. Here are some of my latest favorite quotes: "One of Christianity’s dirty little secrets that many inside (and outside) the church don’t know is that Christianity invites skepticism! We want our kids to be skeptical when someone tries to feed them an idea. Out of all the world’s religions, Christianity is the only one that has testable claims and invites rational inquiry. (Other religions consider it blasphemy to question their teachings.)" "Colossians 2: 8 commands us to “see to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy.” This is what a Mama Bear does— not only for herself, but also her cubs."
