Misleading

While this book is beautiful to look at, it is not very useful. It is not really a guide to choosing paint. It is a catalog of paint swatches with blurbs about why the interior designer chose that color. On occasion, the blurb will have a nugget of useful information, but a lot of them talk about how the color matches a color they found on their travels. The worst part is that the swatches in the book don’t match the color they are depicting—see the picture for a comparison of the swatch in the book with the swatch in the manufacturer’s paint deck. So if you find a color you like in the book it may be very different than the paint color in real life. This renders the book completely useless.

Great

A great invest for a home book. I carefully pick my house books because I keep them for life and refer back to them for projects and colors.

Beautiful

Beautiful color book. It goes into how the color makes people feel, which I loved.

This book broke me

Just a list of swatchesVery few pictures of the color in an actual room. You will have to google constantly.Even fewer ideas for complimentary colorsLots of Farrow & Ball. (Save your $ and just get a F&B brochure.)Paint brands you've never heard of and aren't available within 20 miles of your metropolitan area.Department store brands (like RH) that seem to have been discontinued by time of publication. If you are loyal or located near one brand, there is no way to focus in on it. You just have to scroll through the whole thing on a hunt for it. The remaining 80% or more of the book will be worthless to you as they never list similar shades in other brands. No tips for how to deal with open concept areas or how to achieve flow from one room to the next rather than an occasional "this paint goes with SW Alabaster" (well duh)Fine Paints of Europe colors do have name-names but are shown here with numbered concierge codes that are difficult to find online.Lots of lavish descriptions of rooms we don't get to see.Decorators were clearly instructed to describe their vacations to France or Mykonos in the most insufferable ways rather than give you any helpful idea of what paint they were talking about. "This shade reminds me of when I summered with royalty," etc, etc, etc. One guy literally said he, "spied this color on the library walls of an English country house." What kind of color is it for those of us reading on screens? We barely know it's a green, from his description. And the number code for that paint is nowhere online. I would have to call the paint company and see if it was from a discontinued line or something. For a book that promised to be THE paint resource, I'm doing too much detective work. Is this a paint book or a travelogue?Book was written when blush pink was IN, and there is just so much of it. I love it, but there's a limit! They had to know it wouldn't be in very long. For every designer who goes against the norm and suggests kids' room colors be gender neutral, there are five that seem to mandate pink for a little girl's roomFor every designer who says they want an actual color on the wall not something with a tiny wisp of color, there are ten who would prefer the gentle wisp of color hidden in a gray. That's a letdown for a book on COLOR.

Swatches not true, defeating primary purpose

While well-written and considered, it's pretty obvious from both the blurbs and occasional example use spread that the "swatches" being used to display the paints aren't quite accurate. While this is a somewhat specific issue, it kind of defeats the purpose of the whole book.
