71" Competition or Hunting Bow - Hickory Longbow - Custom Wood Archery

When I strung the first bow I received, I felt a rough spot in the wood. It turned out it was a hair line crack and the rough spot eventually stood out from the bow. I contacted the seller and sent some pictures. This was probably around 10 p.m. The next morning I had a reply saying another bow we in production for me. Not only did I receive the new bow, but a complete reorder including the string. Stingray Fabrication is fantastic to do business with and their bows shoot great. I'm new to primitive bows and it didn't take long to start grouping well with it. Thanks for making a great product and great customer service.

I wanted a wooden self bow for a Muzzleloading Rendezvous archery shoot. And I am very impressed, with the quality and functionality of this hickory bow. Sure, it will take a slight bend after use, but, that’s normal without fiberglass laminations. I plan to sand and stain it darker (this should be an option) and add a leather grip. The flemish string is very good. Only need to twist it until the string height is 6” strung. Overall, a great deal for a self wood longbow.

The workmanship was good but the packaging was just a plastic sleeve and pathetic. My bow arrived damaged with a gouge in it and a broken bow string. Too bad the seller can’t add a padded sleeve especially since this is a nonreturnable purchase. Buyer beware!

I have only recently discovered archery, specifically instinctive shooting--and cursed my foolishness for not discovering it earlier. Like all new enthusiasts to the sport, I went a little overboard and ended up buying not one but three bows: a Primal Gear folding bow, a mongolian-style recurve, and this one, a beautifully light & balanced hickory longbow. As any longbow shooter can tell you, it takes time and practice to achieve any kind of real proficiency, so believe me, I've been putting in some time and practice. Since I'm new to the sport, I don't have a lot of grounds for comparison, but I know good craftsmanship when I see it, when I hold it in my hands. I love this bow. I know without doubt when I'm shooting badly the fault is mine, on me, not this marvelous piece of work. Since I've found such joy in archery, I felt like sharing and bought a bow each for my daughter and son-in-law. For my daughter, I bought a beautiful but simply designed recurve modeled after the traditional Chinese style. I bought one of these longbows for my son-in-law, thinking he would have an affinity for its elegant simplicity, as I do. Anyway, if it isn't glaringly obvious, I strongly recommend buying this longbow. You'll have to keep it oiled to protect the wood, to keep it pliable and more weather-resistant. I use lemon oil since it works so well on my rifle stocks. There are other wood oils, of course.

The bow is nice and shoots well and the bowstring is good, but this was advertised as a finished bow, the bow I got was still rough and did not have any poly applied to it. It's shipped in a bag with minimal protection, and the end of my bow was sticking out of the bag when it was delivered, but I was lucky and it didn't appear to suffer any damage.

Update.... I bought this bow again, gave it a face lift this time with pistol grip and special tips... It was well made and I would buy again at this price. I shot 300 hundred arrows today on the range. From 20 meters to 40 meters. It was smooth and no vibration. I have to send this message out to everyone who is thinking about purchasing a Nice Longbow right handed at 40 - 45 wt. the price is right and get the upgrades... I purchased my own bow string from Pacifica Archery in California good deal for 15 dollars with a free notch. The reason I gave this bow a 4 star. Is because I have to sand down the pistol grip to my hand size. I think I might purchase the universal grip next time. That way I have a bow for a friend when I go shooting on the range. Great buy on Amazon... The bow arrived with the shelf on the wrong side. I hold the bow with my left hand. I order a string with the bow. The string was made wrong. It couldn’t hold a nock on my arrow. The tips that hold the bow string were rough and not properly sanded down. The string would break in a month.. I gave the rating of this item a 2. For the length speciation was good. The grip was ok. The wood looked ok, no cracks. Never had a chance to shoot this bow. In the process of returning item.

First, the bow itself is beautiful; it seems like a quality product, and it was very nicely shaped. I bought it for my husband for Christmas. He really enjoyed all the design possibilities for finishing it, and he’s excited to have a unique product in the end. Second, the customer service is excellent! The packaged was sliced during shipment (thanks USPS) and the string was damaged. I emailed the seller. Within days, he had a new string in the mail.

The bow came a full week ahead of the projected delivery date. It looks terrific and it shoots like a dream. It's become my go-to bow. The pistol grip is comfortable as is but I expect to add a leather wrap to it in the near future. For the money, I don't think you're going to find a better value in a bow.
