They're very small (about 2" x 1"), looks cute, and fairly sturdy. No sharp edges. The lid clicks close and won't come open easily, but does not require much effort to slide open. Material is steel (it's ferromagnetic - a magnet will stick to it), plated. I lack the ability to do material analysis so I can't tell what it's plated with. I left one outdoors for a couple of weeks and there is no sign of rust on it. Definitely not waterproof, and no way to make it waterproof short of sticking it inside a ziploc.If you want to paint it, try sanding and priming it first. Without primer, even with sanding, my Rustoleum paint can be scratched off with not much effort.Useful for storing small items - buttons, pills, mints, even tiny electronics projects if you insulate it properly. Put a couple of neodymium magnets inside and it becomes a hide-a-key (provided your key fits in there, of course).I'd rate it 5 stars if the price is lower. I paid slightly more than $1 a tin. They're available for less on other sites, but only in bulk.There is a thicker and much sturdier version of this available. It weighs about twice as much, and cost significantly more. Personally I don't think it's worth the price difference. Search for 4QK35 slide tin if you're interested. I don't see them listed on Amazon but they're available from other sites.

Constructed with a slide top that makes them easier to open than pop top designs. The metal is ferrous, so you can use magnets to hold the tin in place.
