War of the Realms: Journey Into Mystery

The McElroys, father Clint and his three sons, authors of the beloved Adventure Zone podcast, make their debut at Marvel Comics. They collect a motley crew of second and seventh stringers (Balder the Brave back from Hel, Morales Spider-Man, Bishop Hawkeye, Death Locket, Thori the Dog of Gods (or God of Dogs?), Wonder Man and Druid) and forge them into an ensemble worthy of heavy blows and first class banter. This is one of the most entertaining books I have read lately. So if Marvel does not give them an ongoing already, it’s their own loss. Andre Lima Araujo does a flawless job on the art. This trade collects #1-5 of the “War of the Realms: Journey Into Mystery” limited series. It’s part of a big event, but you can read it standalone without missing much of the fun. You have the most pleasure if you know a bit about Marvel, because there are a lot of cultural references and a load of interesting characters from Marvel history. Highly recommended. Clint McElroy wrote three issues of Marvel Team Up lately, otherwise this might have been all for the time being.

I enjoyed reading every page. Its a cool and funny roadtrip story of a ragtag super hero team on a mission to protect Thor's baby sister. Although it's part of the War Of The Realms event, it is only loosely bound to the main event storyline. So you can also enjoy reading it as a stand alone mini series (maybe reading a summary of the main event will help to place the story in context). I also liked Araùjo's art a lot. Absolute recommendation!

Great book. It was a very fun read. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is interested in comics.
