Here Come The Munsters

Well Done...Captures the Spirit of the 1960s Munsters Very Nicely--Region 2 DVD
This was a thoroughly enjoyable film made in 1995. The plot was very good, and the actors captured the spirit of the 1960s Munsters very nicely. The storyline is eerily contemporary, given the debate over the US-Mexico Border/Illegal Immigrants vs Dreamers. The Munsters find themselves being harassed and bullied by villagers, so they decide to leave their Transylvania home and move to America, at the supposed suggestion of their niece Marilyn. Once there, the Munsters discover that Marilyn's father (Dr. Norman Hyde) is missing and her mother (Herman's sister Elsa Munster Hyde who resembles the 1930s "Bride of Frankenstein" played by Elsa Lancaster) is in a catatonic state, caused by extreme shock. Madcap fun and comedy ensues when the Munsters try to adjust to their new home in America and to search for Norman. Marilyn Hyde (aka Munster) is played by Christine Taylor who played Marcia in "The Brady Bunch Movie." Edward Hermann was wonderful as lovable Herman Munster, and Veronica Hamel made a delightfully girlish, yet beautiful Lily Munster. No one can top Al Lewis' Grandpa, but Robert Morse still did an excellent job as Grandpa. Matthew Bottuchis was good as Eddie Munster. Mary Woronov is hilarious as nosy neighbor Mrs. Dimwitty; she makes another more prominent and hilarious appearance in "The Munsters' Scary Little Christmas." A little hidden gem for fans of the Munster TV show is that you see some delightful cameos in this movie.A small quirk: Eddie's eyebrows kept changing from scene to scene--they would look bushier and wilder in one scene, then tamer in others. Being in color and high definition, you do noticed the actors' makeup a lot more; this was broadcast in 1995, three years before HDTV came out in 1998. So the actors were made up and photographed for analog TV. For a TV movie, it was well-done, with clever writing and excellent acting.Caveat: you will need a Region-Free DVD player to play this DVD, since it is from the UK and Region 2. Surprisingly, this DVD plays on my iMac external DVD drive, my Sony DVD XF950 Portable DVD player, and my Panasonic DMR EH50. The picture is nice and sharp. I'm not sure why this movie isn't available in Region 1. But if you have a region-free player, I highly recommend this fun movie for the whole family.

DVD is not region locked as indicated
I have a Region 2 player I was planning to play this on, but, on a lark, I popped the disc into my PC to look at its metadata. Despite being labelled as Region 2 on this site and on the disc sleeve itself, the disc I received is "locked" to Regions 1 through 8, inclusive, i.e. all regions. This means it should play in any player, and, indeed, it played in my Region 1 player just fine. If you're a Munsters fan, this is good news as this movie has never been released on a Region 1 DVD.

Couldn't be happier!!!
So I've been looking for this movie for 25 years, since I first saw it on Halloween when I was 10. Well the movie came early, disc was mint and I popped it in my blu-ray player and me and my son watched it and couldn't stop laughing. I would say it was well worth the wait . . . Thank you

Grim and ghastly ... and not in a good way.
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. I knew this wasn't the original cast but thought I'd give it a try. GHASTLY with none of the atmosphere or 'togetherness' of the original cast. If you remember the TV series - then leave your memories intact rather than overlay them with this grim sequel. Apparently, the powers-that-be in America are considering rebooting the series .... where is Spot so that he can torch their scripts?
