This sized blade for the price, hard to beat.
I agree with others that the handle is not the best, but hard to beat this sized dagger for the price. I do like the contrast between the blonde wood handle and the leather sheath. It looks nice in the sheath. Out of the sheath the handle looks almost unfinished. It would be great if they offered a version with a faux ivory handle or possibly stag horn. I think those two would look very cool and not add much to the cost in faux plastic. I assume the original 14th century dagger had a blonde wood handle. So, I guess this is an accurate replica. Regardless I am happy with my purchase and glad to add it to my knife collection.

Great for collector.
I've seen the same knife in other settings selling for $70.00. The wood finish is good, the fit is good, and the blade is good. It has real brass fillings. The scabbard is thich leather with good stitching. Item is made in Pakistan so no two items are alike. It has a barely discernible Pakistan mark of one edge of the blade. They are inexpensive enough to tweel without worrying about ruining it.

A Holbein dagger for the Germanic warrior in you
Double-edged stainless steel blade, extremely sharp and sturdy. Brass pommel and guard, stout hardwood handle with palm swells which feels comfortable in the hand. The wood-to metal finish is superb.1st-rate workmanship. Everything is tight. This is much more than just a show knife but a solidly-built true Germanic warrior's blade, probably better than any real 14th century dagger there ever was. The sheath/scabbard is thick, welted genuine sewn leather like the ancient warriors had it. I mean, why pay $220+ for a Boker Swiss dagger when you can have this for a song? I love it so much I bought another one!

Decent but handle color doesn't match photos also blade out of alignment with handle
I was actually looking for a dagger sheath when I came across this. I like the sheath and the style of the dagger, too. The sheath is pretty good quality, not first rate but decent. The dagger is decent as well. The blade is acceptable. It just says SS and Pakistan. One complaint would be that the stain on the handle is much lighter than the photos and a bit uneven (see my photo). The wood may be rubber wood. The pommel and guard have pretty sharp edges that make it uncomfortable to hold in certain positions. Maybe this is based on the original 14th century dagger. I plan to round them off a bit with a file and some emery paper. All in all this is pretty acceptable. I wouldn't call it excellent craftsmanship as some other reviewers have. It is, however, good for the price, which is by-the-way less than 1/100th that of the Boker Damascus version. Update: I've just noticed that the blade is a bit out of alignment with the handle. Basically, it is crooked. I'm adding a photo to show this(full length).

Impressed
Very happy with this purchase. The dagger is well made, sturdy, nicely sharpened, and has a workable sheath. Not fancy, no jewels, but it feels good in the hand and looks like it will do the job it's intended to do. A layman's weapon. I highly recommend it-as another reviewer said, why pay 200.00 when you don't have to?

This beautiful dagger is so impressive.. in size.. quality, fit and finish, and in the design itself is fantastic! For a 14th Century replica dagger.. this thing is a piece of art! - as one verified purchaser said in his review, this dagger is way better quality than anything they could have ever produced back in the 14th Century! It arrived fast and on time.. and it was packaged adequately, with tip protector, wrapped in plastic and in your typical "cheap knife" box.. but dont let that fool you - the dagger inside that box is A1 Top Notch! The double edged blade came sharp as a razor.. and you could feel how sturdy and well built it is.. and how comfortably it fit your hand.. and the size is just perfect if you like big daggers! The brass and the wood are nicely fitted together with no visible gaps.. and the unique design/shape of the wood handle is a very nice added touch. The handle is a very light colored wood, which is fine, but I plan to use some wood stain on mine to give the handle some color.. maybe a dark wine red. The sheath is a nice leather sheath which retains the dagger very securely.. and it is what you should expect if you have bought other Szco knives from Amazon. As a Szco product, I am sure that this dagger is made in Pakistan like most of their other knives.. and if I was to go over this dagger with a fine tooth comb I am sure I could find little faults and minor defects.. like the fact they use just a regular ugly looking nut and bolt on the pommel end to secure the handle and guard.. when they could have accented that beautifully by adding a nice BRASS pommel.. but I can easily overlook minor things like that (especially for this price) but one of the things that immediately stands out to me is that there is not a SINGLE BRAND MARKING or a "MADE IN PAKISTAN" stamp ANYWHERE on the blade! - unlike many other Szco knives that come with the unsightly stamping/markings. It is a very big dagger.. it is wide and not skinny and thin like many others.. and it is a dual bladed dagger sharpened on BOTH sides! - a dagger is an assassins weapon.. it is designed specifically to be a concealed stabbing/thrusting/slashing weapon.. it is NOT a short sword.. and it is NOT a tool for bushcraft and cutting wood.. it is a weapon for STABBING into a chest or belly or for CUTTING a throat! - It is also a "FIGHTING KNIFE" very similar to the famous Fairbairn Sykes British Commando fighting knives used in WWII which were basically just long double edged daggers that they used in hand to hand combat.. while US troops used a KA-BAR or a Trench knife or a bayonet in hand to hand combat. I have a wide selection of BOWIE KNIVES and HUNTING KNIVES for outdoor bushcraft work and splitting wood - this dagger is NOT for that purpose.. and if you buy one and use it as such.. you will be one of those people on here leaving a negative review on it.. and crying about how "it broke after just one use while on a camping trip!" - even mounting this on your wall as a "wall hanger" is a much better idea.. and it would become the center of many conversations for years to come whenever guests come over. Can you throw it..? - I am SURE you could.. but why would you want to..? - Go buy a throwing knife. Yes, it is just a 440 stainless steel.. and in a perfect world I would much rather have one in maybe a high carbon steel.. D2, T10 tool steel, 9630 spring steel.. or something of a bit higher quality.. but for the price point.. I am not going to complain.. and I am still giving this knife 5 out of 5 stars! As someone who has bought a whole lot of knives from Amazon.. especially from Szco with most of their knives being made in Pakistan and many suffering from quality control issues and poor workmanship.. this dagger from Szco is simply FANTASTIC! - it might just be the best knife purchase I have ever made from Amazon! I plan on buying another one.. before they are all gone!

It is budget, but you get more than what you pay for with this one, it is well made and sharp. Some of the guard and pommel parts are a little uncomfortable if they hit your hand or wrist, but these can be ground down if you were going to rely on it for a self defense tool. I think it is a beautiful piece of functional art, and a great knife for the price.

The handle is terribly finished. Or better yet not finished at all. I spent about an hour at a belt sander fixing up the razor sharp edges on the brass on the handle and smoothing out the handle itself. It’s a sturdy knife but it’s not made to hold in your hand or use. With some time and patience tho it can be turned into a good quality knife that is a pleasure to hold. The sharpening job was also poor. Took a long time to bring a decent edge to the blade.
