Somewhere in the middle of the collar (never on the ends) hold 2 links in an inverted "V". While they are in a V, twist the pieces apart by twisting one wrist one way and the other wrist the other way. If you look at the way each piece is made you will see it is made so that they won't come apart when the pieces are straight. Putting the collar back together is exactly the same....In an upside down V

How does this collar compare to "metal pronged" collars?

I have not used the pronged collar. I have a golden doodle and from the time I took her to dog school, she has used this collar. It is easy to add or take a link off. She responds to it especially when we go to walk in the park. I would recommend this for sure!

Would this fit a 20 inch dog neck?
