Opened the box and it's two parts. Assembly is place base on ground, put compost cylinder on base. Done. I love its simplicity. The rollers work very well. You can actually give it a spin and it actually spins on its own for a bit. The lids open and close easily. I still don't quite get how the compost tea thing is supposed to work. There's a hole in the top of the base unit for water to enter but I don't get how that equals compost tea. Am I supposed to add water to the cylinder and it drains out the holes in the side? That seems gross. And how does it not just get full of rainwater? Again, that confuses me. Regardless, the construction is solid. The design is simple. Zero installation required. I bought this model for the dual compartments which should allow me to let one side mature while starting fresh material in the other side and back and forth. Good product.

The dual chambers allow you fill one side for several months and then allow it to compost while you fill the other side. By the time the first side is ready to use, the second side is ready to let rest and finish composting without adding any new material. Just keep this routine with one side finishing while you add to the other, then rinse and repeat. It rolls easily to turn the compost.

This is ALMOST the perfect composter - light, roomy, animal proof, easy to turn. I have had several composters in varying configurations and materials and by far this is the most efficient. Well worth it if you can afford to spend. If not, its easy to DIY one that doesn't tumble but that does require more turning maintenance and animal proofing. After several months of use I have am frustrated with a seemingly easy to fix design flaw. You cannot empty the composter without having to either dig in with a spade (or some type of skinny shovels as my standard size shovels do not fit) or pick it up off its base and roll it back and forth to empty it out. You won't realize this until your compost is ready - several months.

This double compost wizard dual tumbler by Good Ideas is absolutely cool. It's huge but it comes all in one piece so you really don't have to put it together simply open up the product out of the box and put it on its base and it's ready to go. One of the reasons I got this (vs the other stand up composters) is the fact that it makes compost tea in the base. However since it would be on the floor it might be a little hard to get the compost tea out without having to take the barrel full of compost off and tip over the base to get the tea out. So because of this we decided to make a table to put our composter on so that we could easily drain the compost tea without having to move it. This works fairly well and I definitely recommend putting it on some sort of table or platform. I love the fact that it is multi divided into two separate portions so you can have one filling up while the other side is turning into compost. However the only reason it has this is a thin layer of plastic in the middle which I thought they could have easily divided into actual separate places I keep worrying that it may break in the middle. I haven't had that problem yet. I have had mine for about a month now and I'm just barely filling up one side of the compost bin so if you're a single-family household one of these will do great to keep your compost in while the other one is mixing. It's supposed to make compost in 6 to 8 weeks and I've had my filling for about a month now and it's still kind of looks like what I put in there. So I expect it might take a bit longer, but I like the fact that I have another one to fill up while I'm waiting for the first. easily You can easily turn it, it even has some little cups and grooves to put your hands in making it easier to turn. The circular lids come off easy by just screwing them down and the only thing I have to look out for is that it collects a lot of gnats. Once I open the lid I kind of have to wait a while unless I want to get a bunch of bugs in my face (which I don't). After they have dissipated a bit I can dump in my compost, give it a few turns, and I am done till next dumping. Other than that I think it's a great product and I'm very happy with my purchase. Just started using it so I can't rate performance but material and lid fit is top notch.

I have been using this composter for 6 months, have successfully made great finished compost on one side of the tumbler, and so I feel qualified to write a review. I did not use it as instructed (assemble the proper ratio of brown and green materials all at once into one side of the drum). I instead used it as a daily compost bin, adding vegetable scraps and pulverized dried leaves on a nightly basis and spinning it every time I added material. Lesson number 1 if you plan to use it like me: to avoid creating a rotting, mushy slop, you have to add way more dry/brown material than you think. Another piece of advice for emptying the drum: you will need to get a shovel that fits through the round opening to the drum. After six months, all of the mechanisms (specifically the rollers and the screw lids to the drum openings) have held up to daily use. Even when one of the drums was completely filled with finished compost and the other drum was half-full, the rollers and the base held up. Note 1: my neighborhood has a black bear problem (a human trash problem, really). There are constantly bear paw prints on the exterior of the drum, but they were never once able to unscrew the lids. I would call this tumbler black bear-proof. Note 2: this does not make compost tea. The bottom reservoir just collects whatever rainwater finds its way in there. The contents of my drum never leaked liquid down into the bottom reservoir. Note 3: my household has three adult vegetarians, and I made one drum of finished compost in six months. Now that the weather is cold, the process is obviously slowing down, and I am not sure that drum #2 will have finished compost when drum #1 is full to the brim.

Unlike elevated drum composters that often turn with some flimsy handle and cog mechanism this one simply sits on wheels on the base. Therefore you won't have to try and repair/replace a handle or cog that has broken. However, I would recommend elevating the composter base with a stand so that you will be able to use the drain plug for the compost tea collector in the base. It definitely works as advertised and the dual drum feature allows one batch to finish while you're loading the other half. Definitely the best bang for the buck.

My tumbling composter has broken already! I have had it for less than a month. I have partially filled one side with a batch of food scraps. I went to put more food scraps in and found the silver ring around the opening of the empty side had burst off. The metal pegs securing it to the composter popped out. Now, the lid won't seal securely so I cannot use the left side. There was no misuse or abuse that could have caused it to happen; it has been simply sitting with some food scraps in one side. Sending it back would be messy because the box has already been recycled and the right side is full of food scraps and the base is full of compost tea. I would like a replacement composter. Thank you.
