Amy-Jill Levine and Warren Carter have outdone themselves in this new book. They give a solid background for each book of the New Testament, emphasizing the Jewishness of Jesus. We are teaching a year long Bible class. This book is an important source book for us in our New Testament Classes.

Required text book, but worth the investment. Well-written, new slants, understandable.

I was prereading the book for class next semester. I am looking forward to the class in part because I have read the book. I expect to be challenged in my understandings and presuppositions.

Worked for the class I needed it for.

It is refreshing to read commentary on the scriptures by wise and encouraging teachers.

Just what I expected

I couldn't have got through my theological training without this - it helped to explain all the mysteries and get the grades I needed - definitely recommend

This book is ok, but I found it difficult to follow the thread sometimes for all the references. These are useful, but when trying to get the gist of something it sometimes became hard reading.

Good read and not too complicated. Worth the purchase. will be able to refer back in later years. Not as easy to read in e-book format but still very useful.
