Q: Is this a better drill than the ddf484z? i looked at the specs at the max rpm was 100 lower but it is quieter and 100g lighter.

DDF484 would be a higher specification model than DDF485. DDF484 has a higher torque and all metal gearbox. Both have brushless motors.

Q: Would this cope with drilling doors for locks

Yes, easily, it's effectively a combi drill without hammer function, that's the only difference.

I've got a makita 14 v and that's the same. Mines old now but I looked on YouTube and someone has put an elastic band to hold the switch forward.
