A powerful clearly written text on Vedic history and the path to enlightenment.
First let me congratulate Dr. Freund on his brilliant discovery of this ancient text and his clear translation of it. This book contains both the English translation and the original Sanskrit text. It is very well written, beginning with a synopsis of the ten stories in this great work which helps guide the reader through the journey ahead. These ten stories explain the full range of experience in life, starting with ignorance and moving to full enlightenment. This is the quest that brings life from confusion to complete fulfillment. What a great accomplishment by Dr. Freund and his colleague, Vivek Vaidyanathan. And what great joy to read.

Absolutely beautiful book...an extremely rare find
Peter Freund delivered an amazing gem of the highest knowledge and value to the Vedic seeker that has been overlooked and nearly lost to mankind. This powerful Purana is a must read for those seeking to awaken to higher consciousness. He's done such a superb job of unfolding the hidden knowledge of how Purana awakens sequentially in important stages to express itself as form. In this elaborate progession of the sequence of unfoldment is unveiled the process to begin where you are and step backwards sequentially to arrive at Brahman consciousness. Such an incredible contribution to preserving nearly lost ancient Vedic Wisdom. I bow down to your intimate detail and focus on this dedicated work of preservation.

Esoteric explanations
Its very hard and difficult work to translate lost ancient Indian Puranas from different languagges including not only sanskrit but other local indian writing fragments. So we should be very grateful to scholars who has done this work. It could be a honor to study such a treasure but Im affraid this not come when You study this translation of Varuna Upa Purana. The translater puted Maharishi's oriented explanation to the structure of the text and or it was puted before the proces begun. It have nothing to do with the other works belonging to the puranic period. Its more like Upanisads' mood of esoteric explanation of the Brahman which comes very often in Maharishi's preaching. So the original mood of the text is lost. The stories are not much clear to the readers, covered with fog of esoteric presentation.Description of destruction of the Universe is not so rich in story like in Vayu Purana or Kalki Purana, even well know story of Daksha sacrifice is full of esoteric smoke covered true meaning of it. For stories like these and the other including Tripura episode or Andhaka story and Birth of Skanda as well as stories of eleven Rudras go to other Puranas like Bhagavata Purana, Matsya Purana, Vamana Purana, Visnu Purana and others. The translater writes that this Upapurana is a Rosetta stone for understanding the other Puranas. Actually , I need to claim, that this Upapurana is a smoke covered those other scriptures by its own dark unclear esoteric message.3 stars are only for the care and trouble made by the translater and we all are very grateful to him. And.also for.the appendix where he tells those same stories as they has been told in other Puranas.
