This makes an excellent base from which to add enhancements. I added celery, mushrooms, sautéed onions and carrots (for color) to my first batch. It’s lick the bowl good!!For my next batch I’m going to try adding barley, corn and golden hominy. FEEL THE BUILDING EXCITEMENT!!!

These packets arrived on time and well-packaged. The soup is really, really good! Stir in an egg and it's as good as any Chinese restaurant offering. A little bit spicy, a lot of flavor, and totally delicious. We're stocking up!

I love hot and sour soup from our local Chinese Restaurants. I've been known to get a gallon at a time. It won't last me long, so I was looking for a substitute, especially when you consider the closest Chinese Restaurant is about 30 miles away. This stuff really works and I admit I was quite surprised. For me, we throw out the directions and use about double the water called for. If you have some chicken or pork shred and add a little. Same thing with bamboo shoots. Of course there are times I choose to drop the contents in a micro safe bowl add the water. Heat in MIcro Wave until good and hot, stir and eat. The heat is good but not at all overwhelming. The taste is fantastic and we use about 6 cups of water. Sometimes a little more sometimes a little less. It's not quite Restaurant quality but it is close and it is cheap and convenient.

Until I figure out how to get the taste right and make it myself, I use these packets. Or if I’m just lazy in general. It does seem a bit expensive.

Tastes good, but pretty expensive for a packet of spices IMO.

I love hot and sour soup, but I hate having to go out to a restaurant for it whenever I want it. I've tried so many at-home substitutes, and none of them really tasted like what I'd get in a Chinese restaurant. When I saw this, I sighed and reluctantly gave it a try. What a difference! It's like a trip to my favorite Chinese restaurant. And it is so easy to use. Put it in boiling water and follow with mushrooms and bamboo sprouts and a scrambled egg - and there it is! I love it. Most highly recommended.

I bought this brand and the kikkoman brand hot and sour soup. Bland. Not hot or sour enough. Veggies in it are weird and unauthentic to a traditional restaurant style hot and sour soup. Definitely use kikkoman instead! I promise you'll thank me.

This soup is a great deal. One packet (you get four) makes a pot of delicious, authentic sweet and sour soup. If you add an egg, as directed on the package the soup is especially delicious. This means each packet of four makes about 16 servings! It's perfect to take in a thermos to work. So economical and so delicious!
