I don't think 3.0 characters will work on 2.0 system, but 2.0 characters will work on 3.0

Mine did not. Not sure if it's the case for all the Finding Dory Play Sets.

No. Mine was fine when I first placed it on the pad. Do you have the latest update installed on your gaming system? It won't recognize it if you don't.
