What's the shelf life for a tube? I'm planning to keep it at home for emergencies.

Not sure of total shelf life, but I've had a tube OPEN for a couple of months now and it still works fine.I just make sure the opening is clear of glue so the cap doesn't stick and all is good.

Does this only work for certain parts of the shoes or I can put it anywhere and does it leave a residue?

BLACK: one I bought was black as tar. I did not notice the Clear version, which I'd buy in future. Black worked fine for my present use, though.I think the stuff sticks to most anything. It is sticky and black and hard to apply - it just squeezes out of the tube and needs to be spread by toothbrush or other brush or gloved fingers. It is great for rough repair like sole adhesion if you can get at the 2 surfaces needing adhesion. I've stuck pieces of leather together as well. But unless you carefully mask areas not to be marked up, it will leave a mess to greater or lesser extent. I kinda like the mess as it hardens to a nice shiny black finish and on the boots I have used this for, it does not look bad at all. MAYBE you can do fine repair of good stuff; but requires masking, I think. Residue is much like caulking material but jet black and not shot out of a tube or nozzle. So, hard to control. It ended up looking a lot better than the caulk repair used by cobbler prior to my own efforts, though, since I could spread it out nicely to feather out edges, which suited me just fine. These were boots on a second or third life so I did not care at all how they looked. Still holding up to hard use!

How long does it have to set up, before I can use the shoes again?

i let it sit for a 24 hr period before wearing the shoes again.

Will it work on felt soles for wading boots?

It did not work for me AT ALL !!

Desperately trying to salvage my fave sneakers (three pairs) with this was somewhat successful, though I don't think I put enough layers on. That being said, what I did put on lasted quite awhile. I'll have to get another tube and do it again down the line. You'll have to use quite a lot to make it a permanent repair on the bottom of an entire shoe, but it would probably last a long time.
