Wired Elec Wood Chime

I was hesitant to buy a “fancy” doorbell at this price point but 10000% satisfied!!! Absolutely love how grand the sound is, installation was very easy (you will have to install the diode that it comes with and you may have to reverse it once for it to work correctly), and love its simple yet elegant look.

Door bell chime. sounds like real chimes. Very pleased. Easy for me to install. May be a little bit difficult for some.

Easy to install and works as expected. The only complaint I have is it could be louder. I have it turned up all the way. If it were louder I would give it five stars.

The info for the product states "DIODE." So--what's that? It also states, "easy installation, no special tools required." Yeah, but a special workman IS required. To replace an existing doorbell (we have transformer and two working doorbells)--you can't. You have to install a diode in the main doorbell first to get the thing to work. And that requires an electrician, which will cost far more than the reasonable price of $24.95. I bought this because it's the only one on the market 1) with a Westminster chime, 2) that can also be set for one chime for front door and a different chime for back door, in order to know which door to go to. So how much is this going to cost? Truth in advertising would work, folks. Replacing a doorbell is one major hassle, even if you already have a transformer and 2 working doorbells. All I wanted was the chime. Extremely frustrating. Thus product only gets 3 stars (and oh yeah--it better work, else this review will get revised fast). UPDATE: It cost plenty. Now installed, but mounted it's held away from the wall, hoping nothing will bump into it and knock it down. Also cannot be installed horizontally, only vertically as shown (would be nice if company could modify), so now there's a bare patch on the wall with holes that need to be filled and a paint job upcoming. That means it has to be dismounted, hoping it re-balances when I'm done...if it's not one thing it's another. This is NOT a replacement doorbell. Remember: DIODE. Don't self-install unless you know what that means. It DOES have a separate choice for each door's ringer. It DOES have a volume control--inside the unit, which means dismounting it and opening the unit if you want to turn it up or down...really poor design all the way around.

The chime came quickly. Easy installation was a major point to me. I opened the always difficult clamshell package with a knife being careful not to scratch anything. I read and re read the install instructions. The first job was to install a diode across the terminals of the doorbell button. Yikes. The diode must be installed for this bell to sing Westminster. So no choice. I placed the diode in the tiny space and noted the ring around the diode indicating polarity. I checked the transformer to be putting out 16 volts 1 amp, and noted the old doorbell still worked before I took it out. I struggled to get any sound at all from this new product. I re installed three times never getting the connection from the button at the door through the existing 16v transformer to kick off some kind of tune. Didn't happen. I ask the wife if it was proper to return such an item now freed from its childproof-tight, clamshell enclosure. She said it probably isn't good for the seller to return stuff. But you might 'write a review about it'. So there. One Star. As a post script and hopeful help to the seller, I bench tested this item. The volume control, when turned up to a higher setting than mid setting, distorts and then silences the chimes. The unit works, but when the volume is turned up to a higher setting, the unit does not work. Just a friendly addendum. Still one star.

Replaced a basic 1960s’ doorbell that intermittently worked. I also replaced the transformer and doorbell switch. The cover pulls off and pushes on making access to the selection controls for the rings easy. The option to wire it for a second door is also a nice feature. Basic appearance is nice not to sure how it will hold up under heavy cleaning if needed. Overall it’s a nice bell and is a nice touch to updating the aging interior.

Definitely need to install the diode that comes with the unit. No big deal though. We really like having the digital sound using a powered transformer system. Our original doorbell used electrical relays to operate the chimes. These chimes are close to the same quality of sound.
