I’m a 52 year old man with fine, thinning hair, and have very sensitive skin, particularly on my scalp. My eyes, nose and sinus membranes are also very sensitive to smoke, animal hair/pet dander, outdoor pollens, and chemical smells, especially strong fragrances found in perfumes, air fresheners, lotions, hair sprays, etc. It’s very challenging for me to find a hair product that gives me all the hold I need without being oily or greasy and without chemicals that make my scalp feel itchy or have a strong smell that irritates my eyes and nose. I also don’t like way my hair looks with products that give it an oil slick look, or make it look too shiny.SIDE NOTE:I first tried the Prospector’s Gold Rush pomade (in the gold can) but had to return it after one use due to the strong odor. It had great hold, and if you like smelling a strong odor of baby powder all day long and washing your hair 3 times every night before going to bed or having your bed pillows smell like it, you will love it. It has amazing hold without making your hair look oily or shiny.THIS PRODUCT:This review is for Prospector’s Diamond unscented pomade (in the light blue can), which is now my favorite daily pomade.HOW TO APPLY:I scoop out a small to medium sized dab with my index finger, rub it together between my palms to spread it out and then work it into my hair while it’s still damp from a shower (or a spray bottle) and use a standard hair brush for a perfect look.HOLD:It stands up to windy days. I can go all day without re-brushing it, and if I’m going out to dinner I can re-brush it and it maintains a perfect hold without re-applying more pomade. It has firm hold all day (including my thin flyaways). In the morning, I just re-brush my hair and voila, no more bed hair!SCENT:This pomade is almost totally fragrance free. If I hold the can close to my nose I can faintly smell a very mild, very pleasant odor of what I would describe as a cross between fresh linens and candy. I can just barely smell it after applying it to damp hair, but after a few minutes once my hair dries the smell is nonexistent all day, and my pillowcase has zero smell from it.SHINE:No noticeable shine, which is perfect for my thinning hair because I don’t want my thin hair to look even thinner with oily strands gathering together.OILY/GREASY:It’s not oily or greasy so I can touch my hair with my hands without having to immediately wash them, and I can go to bed without shampooing my hair and it doesn’t soil the pillowcase.VOLUME:This pomade gives my fine, thinning hair a nice volumized look and kind of helps cover my bald spot on top, towards the back.My life is complicated enough without having to worry about my hair, and this pomade makes my life easier and makes my hair look great all the time.

For the price, this stuff works well, smells nice and lasts a very long time.

Diamond is the only flavor of pomade I will use in my hair. Excellent quality and styling. The huge can is a little different, as the lid really doesn't secure like the small cans, but mine was also pretty banged up in shipping. Not a deal breaker, because it works and I didn't lose any product.

Smells like sunblock. It's real nice. Not listed on suppliers website, so maybe a hard to find item??? I'm just saying... It lays out like silk and smells like a day at the beach. What's not to love. 10 Star review

This product is one of my favorites! It smells really good, has a good hold, and washes off your hands easy. The reason why it’s not 5 star is because it doesn’t rise off the hair well. Using just basic shampoo a couple times does work. You’ll have to use shampoo and conditioner alone. Even if you use a two in one it leaves the hair feeling as if it’s greasy, but without the greasy (sounds confusing I know). It’s worth trying or test it out on your hair.

You can’t go wrong with Prospectors pomade. It washes right off.

I’m a huge fan of Prospector’s Pomade products. I’ve used several, and most of them I love. I’m an upright bassist in a rockabilly band, and their pomades like Gold Rush and Iron Ore hold up to a lot of abuse and smell good, even after sweaty shows under stage lighting.I hate Prospector’s Diamond. I bought it directly off their website, thinking it may be a suitable “less formal” pomade to keep my hair under control for everyday non-stage stuff. I was horribly wrong.It has almost zero hold. None that I can tell, really. The others dry to a pretty solid set and great shine. This made my hair look greasy, but not hip… just kinda unwashed and dirty. It’s sticky, and does not set at all. Do not wear in the summer or anywhere with measurable humidity.Thankfully, it’s water based and washes right out. So if it displeases you as much as it did me, it can quickly and easily be removed.I can’t say enough good things about Prospectors other pomades, but I do not recommend this one to anyone who likes pomade for its hood, shine and old school class. Diamond doesn’t have any of it.
