I make a LOT of things, but I have never cut glass nor used any type of cutting apparatus. I must admit I was a little intimidated. I tried a couple of times using some old mason jars, but had no success. Then...I got on YouTube. First of all, I realized a heat gun might be a handy tool to have; I got back on good old Amazon and found a Wagner heat gun for under $20. Next, I realized that although the limited directions which came with the cutter indicate "cold" water, what is really needed is ICE water; cold is not going to get it. In the demonstration I watched, the guy used a plastic water pitcher filled with ice water instead of the shallow tray pictured in the cutter instructions. More than anything else, the video stressed the importance of a clean score on the bottles, ending right where the first cut began. So today, it was do or die for me; either get this right or give it away. I must say as I was more than a little discouraged after my previous attempts. I practiced on another mason jar before I began cutting on bottled; it went so easily and so perfectly with the proper scoring, heat gun and pitcher of ice water. I didn't even have to use the O-rings. Then I went on to the "real deal", the bottles. Could not believe how easily they went. One of the great features about this bottle cutter is that is has strong rubber grips on the bottom, so the unit stays put as you do your cutting/scoring. I am attaching a picture of what I did in less than 15 minutes. Big difference from my first several attempts! Bottom line is this is a nifty craft item and it will be fun to come up with stuff to make. Right now I am concentrating on using bottles as bases for wind-chimes. Yes, it takes a bit of practice to get those cuts/scores just right, but it works MUCH more easily with a heat gun and ICE cold water in a tall pitcher to make the bottles separate cleanly and quickly. UPDATE FOR NEWBIES: Rely less on the heat gun and more on the ice water. I have found that a few swipes around the score on the bottle, followed by more time in the ice water. You might have to repeat a few times, but slow and steady (with more time in ice water) does the job - without cracking.

Follow the directions. Now, for what the directions don't tell you: the O-rings are there to keep the boiling water and cold water focused on the score line. If your bottle has a raised pattern that allows water under the O-rings or if you spill the water outside of the O-rings the bottles will not fracture along the score line, leaving you with very jagged edges. If you keep the water within the O-rings, the bottles will fracture easily and cleanly. Beyond that, the product is well built and functions as advertized.

So I was initially cursing this tool, and was about to write a review that it didn’t work, pack it up, and return... But I gave it another try, and I’m very glad I did. The key for me was that I wasn’t using hot enough water, so make sure you’re not just using hot sink water- it needs to be truly boiling from the stove. I didn’t have a helper, so I just held the bottles barely above the water in the pot, and used a measuring cup to spoon the water onto the line. I usually only had to go hot-cold-hot before the pieces just popped apart on their own. Second, I started out scoring the crap out of the bottles, and going around and around. You truly only need to go around the bottle one single time. As long as there isn’t a break in the line, less is more. I was getting so mad and frustrated trying to figure this out, so if you’re having issues, keep the faith! Once you have it down, it’s dumb easy Did give this 4 stars instead of 5 because the included instructions are a bit brief & unhelpful, and there are a fair amount of extra pieces/ features that aren’t explained at all.

I returned this since it didn't work on the cheap wine bottles I was trying to cut no matter what I did. I still give it 3 stars since it might easily work on other glass types. Unsure. I did try all the tricks I googled, and still could not cut ONE bottle.

I was disappointed all around with this product. For one, the glass cutting knife that arrived with it was defective. The head has tons of play--maybe 10 or 15 degrees and the screw came stripped. I still got it undone and can see they cut the metal really uneven to hold down the head. The bottle stand was just as frustrating. The design does not allow for a quick adjustment because none of the nuts are self-securing. Even time you need to make a tiny adjustment, you must pick up the whole stand and get tools on the top and bottom. I also have really sloppy hardware on my kit, I actually have a phillips screw that only has 3 of the 4 edges cut out so I can't even adjust that one. The axels holding on to the wheels are far smaller than the diameter of the weels and each have about a 1mm gap so you cant rely on them to keep a straight edge. There's also no way to change these out. I had no confidence in the product so I took a few less important bottles and spent a lot of time getting the adjustments so the blade would meet the bottle and it would be touching all 5 guides. Still, the bad design resulted in scoring that didn't meet line to line. I ruined bottles to confirm what I could tell just from looking at this. It's unusable if you want to produce the kind of glass cuts they show in their product photography.

I used this product yesterday. It came assembled except for placing guiding bar, but it was easy to assemble. The cutter made the marking without issue. I applied a bit of pressure and created a marking around bottle. The product did not slip or slide at all during this process. I placed rubber rings on the bottle as stated and ran boiling water, cold water and the boiling again. But the bottle did not break. I repeated the steps and decided to use a bowl with boiling water. I repeated the process again with same results. I then dipped and spun bottle in bowl with boiling water and after repeating this step two more times the bottle separated at the line. So in the end it did work. I likely need to practice a bit more to get the process right the first time. This is my first time using a bottle cutter. I also used a glass water bottle rather than a wine bottle so maybe the glass is thicker.

We bought this bottle cutter as a fun craft project to turn our two daughters' favorite wine bottles into glasses for their apartment next year. After a quick improvement of getting a stable base for the uneven bottle bottom, we started cutting and breaking. It is surprisingly easy. One daughter managed the cutting and breaking because she is the perfect "hand model" and the other created the TikTok because she is the social media genius. I'm just the dad who found the perfect product and knows how to boil water. We could not be happier with this bottle cutter. It has rubber feet to keep it from slipping, the wheels are sturdy, the fasteners and pieces are all very secure. We highly recommend that you get this one!

Overall, a poor value for the price. While this device will cut bottles, it's primitive nuts and screws design makes adjustments more cumbersome than necessary. If you desire cutting wine /beer bottles while retaining labels- the design is insufficient for making precise cuts higher up on bottles (e.g., near tapering point of bottle). You essentially have to manually and carefully guide the cut, rendering the device's rollers and stop brace essentially useless. Secondly, there are a few extra parts included in the package which are not described in the (overly brief) instruction pamphlet. Gloves were included in the box.
