It is a toy, not a fountain.
Zero stars. I really like T. Rowe's review of needing a place for fatigued rocks, but I am not sure it can even do that well. All I hear is the motor running and is super tiny. Maybe it would be worth $5, but just for looks, not a soothing sound. It was definitely not worth $20.00.

cat fountain
The fountain was a gift from my sister as a Christmas gift. It lasted for 9 months. However it died and I found an identical one on Amazon. Yay! Thank you so much. My cat depends on it everyday to drink from it. It gives her so much pleasure

Very disappointed.
Very cute but when you plug it in, the motor is so loud you can't hear the water trickle. Very disappointed.

Battery lasted a day
Does not come with an AC adapter which it needs because the batteries don't last long at all, about a day.

Tiny, noiseless, and cheap
I picked up this fountain bowl at my local Wal-Mart for $5. I can't hear the motor, which is good, but the trickling of water is not exactly audible either. It's plastic and it definitely doesn't scream "high quality product," but for five dollars it's a cute little item; I wouldn't pay a dollar more for it, however. I put some rechargeable AA batteries in it since it doesn't come with an adapter and buying one costs more than the fountain itself. The manufacturer really seems to recommend batteries anyway, because they warn not to power the fountain with an adapter for more than 72 hours or else gremlins will pop out of it-- er, I mean, continuous AC power will break the fountain.

Good addition to a terrarium
I bought mine at WalMart for $5. No complaints for the price. The motor is quiet but I can barely hear the trickle of the water. My set came with much fewer and smaller pebbles than what I see on the picture which was disappointing. I placed the fountain in a shallow clay plate with 3 small plants behind it and pebbles covering the bottom of the plate. It made a beautiful arrangement. I was trying to find a better deal online because I am planning to prepare these terrariums to give to friends as presents. Although I would not pay more than 5$ for it, I am satisfied with my purchase.

Buyer's remorse
I put new batteries in the fountain immediately after opening it, new from the box and the pump doesn't work. The lights come on, but the pump doesn't. The cost of sending it back isn't worth it when compared to the cost of the thing.
