LOVED LOVED LOVED!
Great visuals, easy to read patterns and so many my daughters and I had never seen that we want to do. This book gives you just what it says, tons of squares and their patterns. There isn’t any blankets with the combos but that makes for great imagination skills. We are getting blocking mats/boards and getting started with our own blankets ASAP!

To ignite your creativity!
Oh my gosh. This is the most definitive guide to granny squares, EVER. It covers everything from beginner squares all the way to advanced. It gives you clear instructions on how to create the square. What it doesn't give you is gauge sizing on the square, or amount of yarn needed to complete a pattern. This book doesn't give you patterns, it simply gives you the instructions for "crocheting" the granny square itself. If you have a pattern your going to use then you would simply make a square the size (heaviness or lightness) you want, then make all the remaining squares of the pattern the same way. There are heavy squares, lacy squares, flowers, zig-zags, ripples, ombre, multi color, layer on layers, flowers, inlays, popcorns, edgings, hearts, cats, snowflakes, abstracts, symetricals.....and on and on. If you've ever wanted something more than just a granny square, this is your book!

A nice collection of granny squares, but the binding could use some redesigning.
The Big Book of Granny Squares has a nice collection of granny squares, but the binding could use some redesigning. I first checked this book out at our local library to dive into the world of granny squares. I liked the book and the interesting patterns in it so much that I decided to buy the book. I like the variety of granny square patterns this book contains. The patterns have different difficulty ratings from one (*) stars to four (****) stars which helps when you to pick out which granny squares you want to work with in a project. I wish that the patterns in this book would mention how many stitches you should have at the end of each row like many of the other patterns I have worked from other sources. To a beginner in crocheting granny squares some of the patterns can be a bit confusing, but with some crochet common sense and ingenuity it's not too hard to figure out the difficult/confusing parts in the patterns. I'm giving this book four stars for that reason and the fact that spiral binding is only threaded through thick card stock which contributed to my book arriving with some minor damage to the holes in the thick card stock which holds the spiral binding in place. I would suggest to anyone else who orders this book to reinforce the holes in the card stock both in the front and back.

Lots of Great Ideas in One Book!
This is a comprehensive as well as delightful collection of Granny Squares! With easy-to-follow instructions, I have made everything from doilies to afghans. The book divides the squares by color, but they can be any color you choose. Some of the solid color squares lend themselves to creative combinations, wherever your imagination takes you! If you love to crochet and make Granny Squares - lots of which don't look like the typical "Granny" - and need new ideas for projects, this is the book for you. The price is reasonable, too.

Fun but be prepared to fix errors
I found this book at my library and ended up purchasing the kindle version for when I have to return it. I have been working my way through the book, and want to make a giant blanket with all 365 squares.However. I have had to fix several of the patterns as I go. Sometimes, numbers are dropped (ie, “1 dc in next dc” when it should read “1 dc in next 2 dc”). Other times, colors are incorrectly referenced, where the picture color key will have a specific color for color A, but the instructions either add colors (like referencing color D in a three color pattern) or tell you to use the wrong color for a round. The most egregious one I’ve found so far is in square 141, where a square that clearly has 3 colors and 7 rounds has a pattern that references 4 colors and lists 9 rounds.I’m not a beginner so this has been a nice puzzle while I improve my skills, but it’s also frustrating at times. So be aware that you’ll be correcting the patterns from time to time and read carefully before you start a square.

Love it!
Great mix of different square's. Love it so much I purchased both a kindle and print copy. Also told all my crocheting friends about this book so they can enjoy it as well. A few changes would be in order though... My first change I would have the stitch counts at the end of each row or round. I have noted that some of the patterns have that but lots of them do not. My second change would be the binding. As a well loved pattern book I can see that the spiral binding would come undone. Mine has already only a few weeks into owning the book. I've managed to get it back into place but thinking there has to be a better solution for this. So for content of the book you all get five stars ... Though for the binding you only get two stars ... Thankfully I have both versions so I can use my hard copy more as a close up reference copy or I would have had to return it .

So many to choose from!
I love this book of motifs. I use it often for a visual guide for stitch patterns as well as color ideas. It's very well written with easy to understand instructions. It's an all around great tool to have and keep handy....like the Good Housekeeping cookbook we all got from our grandmother's when we first started out.

Needs more than 5 stars
Not only does this book have an amazing collection of granny square patterns, it also has step by step skill type instructions. It coveres everything from starting stitch to blocking, and many stitches in between. It shows illistations with every instruction, and covers some pattern reading. I couldnt be happier. The spiral binding means I don't lose my place learning a new stitch or pattern. Great book!!
