quiet - smooth
I absolutely love this trimmer -- it runs smoothly and quietly -- my others chatter with blade noise and vibrate -- yes, I agree that it is heavy -- the mostly metal shafts and innards make it so -- this has a Professional feel to it although the price doesn't reflect that -- non-pole 20" versions are priced about the same -- I found it took awhile to get used to the handle being at the bottom end of the shaft -- I believe that I was able to cash in on those units that were returned just because of the weight -- I got this 1/2 price ("used") and cannot tell that it is not new -- even the book is still in its original plastic -- the packing was a bit lacking but not an issue (came in original box) -- for 40 years I trimmed 200' of Hedges so I've been through a variety of trimmers (I don't live there anymore) -- after charging the Battery, I trimmed a 20' Maple tree, 25' of hedges and 2 15' tall schrubs all without a ladder (don't know the variety but not in the Pine family) -- this was so much quicker and a whole lot more accurate than anything that I have used in the past, even Gas powered -- shorter hedges, 25", were a challenge because I trim them with rounded side curves front and back -- it takes a minute to figure out how to trim verticle with this (20" blade, 25" hedge, trigger on the bottom) -- this doesn't bounce off of the ground when cutting vertically because of an end cap at the end -- the end result is fantastic -- the lines are straighter than I have ever been able to do -- because of the somewhat slower speed of a Battery operated Trimmer, I did have some issues with cutting thicker branches (these Battery Trimmers tend to shake the thicker stuff rather than cut it) -- when I was done I still had 2 bars left on the Battery -- I am 74 M with balance issues -- my wife was very happy that I didn't need a ladder -- I didn't investigate the competitors weight issues -- I stopped when I saw this was available under the “used” link -- don't be fooled with lighter versions that have shorter blades and have less powerful motors

Heavy and needx more power...
Have been using it for a few weeks and found it to be not to strong. It can cut branches smaller than the max size it is for, but takes some time. For very thin/weak branches it works ok. It needs to be 40Volts. The battery last and charges fast.

Light weight and capable
I've been using this trimmer for 3 years and continue to be impressed by it. It's very light weight and easy to use. I don't have hedges but I do have a four acre property and I use this trimmer for a variety of tasks. The battery is long lasting and with my use rarely needs charging. I have a large and heavy Milwaukee hedge trimmer too which is good for bigger jobs, but the Earthwise trimmer is my go to trimmer, the one I grab first.

Bought Another for Super Duper Reach!
The old design had telescopic adjustment and lasted me about 5 years, but this new design has an optional non-telescopic 34.5" mid segment (which with 2.5" insertion overlap adds 32" of reach). So you get a trimmer with 74" reach (total tool length) with the option of 106" reach. A 4 mm Allen key (not included) can be used to push in the disassembly button to remove the mid segment extension. Extended, it was a bit short of reaching the tops of my tallest holly trees without a ladder, so on a whim, I ordered a second identical trimmer that just arrived. This gives me a spare compatible Lithium battery, a spare charger, and a spare trimmer head and handle. Having spares is important if you do a lot of trimming or are a professional. But it also allows me to use TWO 32" mid extensions for 138" reach! The ends of the extension poles are male/female electrical connectors, so it works just fine. I can use the other trimmer set up at 74" for close work. I believe the old telescopic trimmer incurred stretch wiring damage, so this design with non-stretched non-moving hidden internal wiring in the pole segments is better for durability.Others have complained that the regular extension makes this trimmer head heavy, so if you have little "girlie arms", then yeah, the Super Extension trick will make it much more head heavy. But as a robust dude, it's not bad at all if I use both hands and keep it close to vertical, just to reach the very tops of my tallest holly trees. You have to be careful, but Super Extended at ground level is much, much safer than regular extended while standing on a ladder. The cutting is fairly efficient averaging two passes on my holly shrubs and trees. Some electric trimmers with less power and duller blades take up to 4 passes. The only safety criticism is that when you release the trigger, the saw blades don't stop the split second you let go of the trigger. Turning on requires pushing a safety button AND pressing the trigger. Of course, I keep my hands clear of the trimmer blades, but instant off would have been a better electrical design. Keep fingers away from the blades at all times and remove the battery when not in use to make it safe.Another tip to extend lithium battery life is not to store the batteries full charged. No need to recharge immediately after a trimming job is completed. I fully charge the battery about an hour before I use the trimmer.

Works, is cumbersome to handle. Not well balanced and not overpowered.
The pole is a hand full.I like the reach and the fact that the head is adjustable. Battery life is better than expected. On the down side, it's a handful to maneuver. Its head heavy and not well balanced. since the power switch is at the base and does not have a lock-on function you are forced to always hold one end. There are no helping handle and the awkward to use.it is somewhat underpowered but can get the job done.. sort of..Overall it works but is could be SO much better.

Works great
Love it. Only thing is I'm 65 and it is heavy. But works really good.

Only good for boxwood hedges
Very weak cutting. After I used it for about 2years, maybe 10-12 times, it became very weak. Battery no longer holds a strong charge. It no longer cuts anything over 1/8". It only cuts very soft green wood best. I have tried using it to cut dry weeds, but it chokes frequently. Not a good value.

Good Value for the Money. Do Not Be Surprised by Failure after a Few Years.
Easy to use. Cuts well. A little under powered for heavy weeds. Battery life seemed good at first. At two out of four battery lights, the machine does not work at all. I will check by recharging. Overall, I am pleased with the purchase. For $109 over 3 1/2 years of heavy use on a couple of acres, it was a good value.
