ZAR 11112 Wood Stain, QT, Walnut, 32 Fl Oz

This stain is awesome. I replaced all the cheap hollow core interior doors in my house with 6 panel doors, stained and sealed but the trim and jams were all painted with white satin or semi-gloss enamel. I didn't want to replace all the trim so I lightly sanded it, then used this stain to cover the white paint and it worked great. If I didn't know the trim had been white I would never guess - matches to the doors very well. They don't advertise the stain for the purpose but it really worked well. Took a long time to dry but it adhered well. 1 coat was almost enough - 2 coats was just right.

Something about the formula Zar uses has changed in the last few years. I have half a pint of Zar 111 Walnut stain that I bought 10 years ago. The product I just bought is NOT the same. The color is different. Instead of acting as a quality penetrating stain, it applies with the consistency of milk requiring multiple coats.

I have been using ZAR stains exclusively for the past 25 years. I believe they are the best stains on the market because they have some thickness to them, not watery, and go on beautifully, with results that can be predicted and repeated. Though the ZAR stain line is harder for me to find in stores in my area, I can always rely fully on getting what I need through Amazon.com.
