Easy To Understand
This book guides you through the process of multitasking in an easy to follow manner. While there are basic chapters on singing and playing, the author makes note that if you are experienced to skip these and proceed to more of the combining of the 2. I've been playing off and on for 20 years, and except for alcohol induced nights at the campfire, haven't been able to reasonbly pull off both at the same time. This book breaks down the process into baby steps that, once learned, will make it easy to pick up a chord chart and play anything you know the words to.

Musical Multi-Tasking - Neat!
I play the guitar fairly well (having been classically trained on several instruments) but I have never had the imagination or skill to sing while playing. I have always been the accompanist as others sang at family gatherings. When I saw the title of this book, I thought, "Wow, maybe I CAN learn this." Believe me, I have tried. The results... not so good.I have read through the book and recognize the beauty of the 11 steps presented. They are similar to breaking down a complicated piano piece into many small chunks, learning each chunk (left/right hand, notes, rhythm, chords, etc.) and then putting it all together. In these 11 steps, you do the same thing. You pick a song, and then independently learn the words, rhythm, and chords. Then you record each part, and practice multi-tasking while listening to the recording. For instance, you might record the rhythm, and practice humming over it, or "talking out" the words to the song, not bothering with singing at first. All in all a very neat approach that I can definitely validate from my classical musical training. The book assumes you have some skill playing the guitar and can carry a tune (no matter how poorly). If you've got those skills, then you should easily be able to learn to play the guitar and sing at the same time using this sweet methodology!

Let's take it from the top....
This is a good, comprehensive beginning to playing the guitar, and learning the theory of singing. You will get a lot out of this if you are new to music, and don't EVER forget--and as a former Opera singer I know what I am talking about--practice practice practice and more practice everything is this book and more.Music must become your world. Learn to sight read both clefs, and practice practice practice some more!Break a leg!

Not sure why, but it worked.
I've never been able to sing and play at the same time...so I was game for anything. The book is lengthy for the solutions but I think it relaxesyou into going along with some of the exercises, whichdon't all look valid on paper but appear to do the trick.I'm glad I found this book and will be passing it along toothers I know, who are having the same problem.

Detailed, step-by-step, easy-to-follow guide
Singing and playing the guitar is perhaps akin to singing and touch typing - you need to be both expressive and accurate at the same time. Tutty has created a detailed, step-by-step, easy-to-follow guide to singing and playing guitar at the same time. He writes in an encouraging way, from the perspective of "I've been where you are, I did it, you can do it too!" Following his advice, you'll be able to isolate singing and guitar playing, then integrate the two. He includes advice about performance and writing your own songs. You'll wow the audience at your next living room family gathering, open mic, or American Idol/Britain's Got Talent audition!

YES!!!!
Rob Tutty, thank you! Hate to admit it, but I've been struggling with this problem for a while now (playing / singing / and pleasing the crowd). I recommend this book to musicians who want to feel good performing, as if playing the guitar and singing come natural. *thumbs up*

As a Guitar Player ..
Yes, I was one of those people with no formal musical training who bought a guitar and sat on the porch for over a year learning how to play on my own! And, it took me even longer to be able to sing while I played! After reading this book I'm saying, "What a waste!". I could have learned to sing and play much, much faster. The author relates to some things that didn't exist when I first started out. Using items such as video games to distribute interest in musical instruments. Not to drone on, I'd just suggest, for the little money this course costs, it's absolutely worth reading to get started with your guitar playing and singing experience.

What a treasure! Wish I had it 20 years ago!
I had guitar lessons when I was at school ages ago. Became never really good at it but loved it. I got this book as a refresher as my guitar is still with me wherever I move. What a book! A great step by step guide about how to improve your guitar playing and singing skills and how to synchronise both. I really liked the part of the visualisation wherever you are. I read once about an experiment of 2 basketball teams. One team practised penalty shots and the other team was just visualising the shots and they both had improved almost equally. So it really works! You will find heaps of tips in a well structured way. I will give it a go.

Good book for beginners
Good book for beginners, gives basic guidance to putting all the bits of playing guitar and singing in simple logical steps, would recommend it to newcommers handy book for the more experienced play to have on the shelf, especially when asked for advice on various aspects of playing and singing.

What a great book!
I taught music for 20 years and during that time came across all sorts of resources to help young people get to grips with their musical instruments. This book is a gem of an instructional resource. The directions are clear and logically set out. The diagrams and photos make it easy to understand and to follow. And the theory supports and makes sense of the practical advice. I'll certainly be recommending this to budding singing guitarists.

still learning
more success with this book than struggling on my own. It gives a logical progression for both playing and singing in time.Still not easy though, you need this book if it doesn't come naturally to you
