Constellations: The Story of Space Told Through the 88 Known Star Patterns in the Night Sky

I’m anything but a serious astronomer with serious gear and simply love viewing/comprehending what’s above with great binoculars. This book is great quality with great pictures and information at the exact level I was wanting. I have more detailed comprehensive books but not really interested in PhD level astronomy. If I could only have one I’d keep this one.

It's a beautiful and informative book, that is wonderfully illustrated. I've included photos to show. The print, pictures, layout is all top notch. It was better than I thought it would be. From young to old, they will all enjoy this book..

This book is seriously gorgeous and a great addition to our personal library. When homeschooling we often explore different aspects of space because it is just so fascinating. We live in town but we often take the kids way out of town to star gaze and they are always so amazed by the beauty of the night sky. Because of that both of my kids have an immense love of space and all it entails. I've always been intrigued by the story of constellations and the stories they tell. With the help of this book I can share their stories with my children. The pictures are bright and the information is laid out in a way that is very clean and not to overwhelming. It flows so nicely that you cant help wanting to see what's on the next page. We are now able to identify the ones we can see where we live and talk often about traveling to where we can see others. At this point my kids know more about the constellations than most adults they run into which is one of many proud moments for this homeschooling mom. If you are considering this book buy it you wont regret it because its worth every penny!

I brought this book because I'm starting to study astrophysics at university and wanted to take a deeper look into constellations. The information on each constellation is very complete for this type of book, and the quality of the book is excellent. The only thing I would change is that the asterisms (what we commonly understand as "constellations") are not the ones endorsed by the IAU. Other than that, it is a great purchase.

Beautiful illustrations. Great book and informative. There is detailed information about 88 constellations. Not what I was looking for though. Returning for one that will be more appropriate for kiddos.

I like this book on Kindle however there is little beauty on seeing it on Kindle. This is a book that must be purchased as a hardcover. It is a coffee table book. I love the pictures, however the main reason for buying this book is for the sky maps. There are so many beautiful books that can't be displayed in Amazon preview except for the cover. Perhaps this is too beautiful to display.

This is a very interesting book from start to finish. Lots of good explanations and education about the many amazing constellations in our solar system. Well worth the money!

First got this on Kindle. I loved it so much I also wanted it as a physical book so asked for it for my birthday. Main difference between the Kindle edition and the hard copy is that the hard copy has white text on black background. In the Kindle version, this is reversed. So worth bearing in mind if you struggle with the optics of white text on black background. Although you can of course zoom in to images on Kindle, I loved the images so much, I immediately wished I'd bought it in hard copy. And this is where it comes into its own. Book is very well formatted. You can easily find a constellation without needing the index as it is arranged alphabetically. Wil Tirion's star maps are excellent - clear and beautiful. Photos used throughout are so fascinating and stunning. Text is reliable, well presented, concise. I'm using it to learn the constellations in conjunction with watching 'Learning The Sky' on YouTube and the two resources combined are perfect. I refer to this book over and over again and it's accessible for the non scientist, beginner but also the info is comprehensive enough to be genuinely useful I'd imagine, once you're beyond beginner stage. Fascinating insights not only into the constellations but various objects in the sky like nebulae, etc. The star map of the entire Northern Hemisphere sky is so good but I'd love to have also seen it reproduced on the end papers, maybe, so we could have it even bigger and easily refer back and forth to it to see where a constellation, when reading about it, is in context of others around it? Love this book and it would make a fascinating gift for anyone who wants to understand a little more about the night sky.
